German MP wants the Ukrainian ambassador booted from the country due to his offensive remarks. The opposition lawmaker remarked the envoys must be called persona non-grata for his statements.
Ukrainian Envoy Needs To Stop Offensive Attitude
According to a conservative German lawmaker, the departing ambassador, Andrey Melnik, who notably made reference to German Chancellor Olaf Scholz as an "offended liverwurst," must be banned from entering the country, reported RT.
Last Monday, Jens Lehmann stated on social media that a diplomat from Ukraine in Germany should identify the sizable humanistic, financial, and military assistance Berlin delivered instead of constantly critiquing German laws and leaders.
The MP is part of the constituency in Saxony; also, he is a member of the CDU/CSU alliance, the biggest opposition party in the German parliament.
The most recent rants preceded comments by the German MP against Germany by the Ukrainian ambassador. The diplomat rescinded an open invitation to Michael Kretschmer, the deputy leader of the CDU and minister-president of Saxony, to visit Ukraine last week.
He has a history of making crude remarks about his host nation and its figureheads. Chancellor Scholz became one of his targets; he made reference to being an "offended liverwurst" for deferring his trip to Ukraine.
Olaf Scholz was reluctant to travel to see Volodymyr Zelensky, who was on the itinerary of every EU leader and whose photo was prominently displayed in EU newspapers, because Ukraine was reluctant to extend an invitation to German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier.
Steinmeier was a key figure in the agreement between Ukraine and the Donbass rebels in the east, but Zelensky himself put it on hold.
Zelensky Recalls Kyiv's Ambassador to Germany
The special operation on February 24 was initiated because Moscow perceived it as a betrayal of the Kievan regime.
Melnik was fired from his job in early July by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, a role he had held since 2015. At first, he was supposed to act as acting ambassador in Germany for several weeks before going back, where he could have functioned as deputy foreign minister, noted Politico.
He is presently expected to hang onto power till mid-October. Lehmann contended that Berlin could expedite Melnik's removal by classifying him as persona non grata.
The Ukraine ambassador spits vitriol at a German official
Andrey Melnik, the former ambassador of Kyiv to Berlin, was dismissed from his position by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in the first few days of July after his dismissive comments led to several uncomfortable instances between Kyiv and Berlin.
The most recent responses came after Kretschmer's previously had an interview with the broadcaster ZDF. The German official said it was essential to "hold" the Ukraine dispute and that discussions and a cessation of hostilities were considered necessary.
The political figure lamented that "so little public discourse" had taken place in Germany concerning the possibility of dialogue for peace with Kyiv and Moscow.
In a tweet last Sunday, he expressed his displeasure, calling the remarks about ending the absurd war rhetoric, and accused a representative of his country's benefactor state of supporting Russian aggression.
German MP Jens Lehmann wanted Berlin to make the Ukrainian ambassador an ingrate to Germany's generosity to Ukraine, and he wanted him out.
