The northeastern snow storm has covered the ground under more than a foot of snow and brought along freezing rain for the sixth week in a row of snowy weather, according to CNN.
The freezing rain across the South made its way up through Maine on Friday, the National Weather Service said, CNN reported.
In most of the northernmost states, snow is expected to fall at a rate of two to three inches per hour, according to CNN. Philadelphia's roads were covered slick on Friday morning due to the freezing rain.
By Friday morning In New York, the storm was withering and the winter storm warning ended, CNN meteorologist Samantha Mohr said. But on Thursday, the entire city was covered in mounds of snow.
The National Weather Service reported up to 11 inches in the Bronx, 14 inches in Fairfield, Connecticut, and more in East Rutherford, New Jersey, which hosted the recent Super Bowl, according to CNN,
That's why New York Mayor Bill de Blasio told reporters Thursday: "Welcome to winter storm six of the last six weeks," CNN reported.
New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie said before the worst of the storm hit: "This has just been a brutal winter where it never really has gotten warmer. And so the natural melting away of snow and ice is not happening," according to CNN.
Another storm is expected to bring 1-3 inches of snow in the Midwest on Friday and then move into the Northeast on Saturday and drop a similar amount, CNN reported. On Saturday, a fast-moving system is predicted in the Midwest again with 1-3 inches of snow and only a small amount in the Northeast.
