China Successfully Tests for Hypersonic Communication at Mach 5+ Speeds

China developed consistent communication with hypersonic glide vehicles (HGV) travelling at Mach 5+ in the test with an HGV streaking around the world towards a target, which caught the attention of US military officials who called it a sputnik moment for them.

Hypersonic Flight Communication Achieved

If a fast HGV from China shocked Washington, the news that Beijing-based researchers were in contact with one another during the flight tests of these weapons should have shocked everyone, even more, noted South China Morning Post.

According to the Science and Technology in Space Physics Laboratory, the system could connect with ground control because the high-speed vehicle maintains contact at high altitudes.

Team leader Li Bin characterized the investigation as a "big breakthrough" in a document of the findings published in the Chinese peer-reviewed journal Missiles and Space Vehicles on August 10, reported EurAsian Times.

Chinese scientists were able to prevent the halt of communications with the devices like ballistic weapons and re-entry vehicles; when they hit incredible velocities. Former research explains that these Mach 5+ weapons connect to target data with 6G, with loss of hypersonic communication from excessive Mach 5+ speeds.

According to Bin's tests, the super-fast missile can be connected to a high-frequency infrastructure with on-ground stations, satellites in orbit, and seaborne vessels, states The Conversation.

Real-time streaming of data collected by sensors on a hypersonic device will be possible thanks to the network.

The system can be used to gather intelligence on targets anywhere in the world and kill them. It is also possible to use a kill switch to stop an operation.

A Chinese ICBM would be simpler to stop, but there is no defence against a hypersonic weapon travelling more than five times the speed of sound. One issue, according to the researcher, is how to direct the weapon to a specific location and have it self-destruct.

Communication Possible Despite Black Barrier

A plasma sheath of hot, electrically charged particles blocks communication when travelling faster than supersonic speed. This black barrier blocks detection and communication with a control center, per The Independent.

The undetectable particles are difficult to lock on and monitor because of the turbulence heated plasma causes, which is invisible to radio and radar waves.

Ka-band is used to command Chinese super-fast weapons, which can enter the plasma barrier. Also noted is the sharp tip that cuts into the plasma and improves radio communications.

The issues brought on by the nose-tip plasma throughout flight can be scaled back by using a cooling tip for a high-velocity flight that is a liquid or gas with nucleophilic materials that serve as the sweating agent.

Scientists reduced the number of metallic components in the device's insulating material and installed the primary antenna towards the weapon's back to increase the strength and stability of transmissions.

Hypersonic communication has been attempted using semiconductor technology based on gallium nitride (GaN), which can ease the conflict between signal strength and power usage, according to Tech Radar.

There was more exploration to develop hypersonic communications that caused a blackout at Mach 5+ speeds, which was solved with several innovations that included ground stations meshed with the system.
