Thai Couples Hug For More Than 26 Hours, Attempt Guinness World Record For Longest Hug (VIDEO)

Twenty-six couples from Thailand attempted to break the Guinness World Record for the longest hug on Valentine's Day, according to CBS News.

The couples included man and woman, woman and woman, and man and man and they all hugged each other for 26 hours, 26 minutes and 26 seconds, CBS News reported.

Organizers said they were sending the video to the Guinness World Record officials for confirmation of the record, according to CBS. Participants will share a $9,203 prize as well as numerous travel packages.

Organizers also held a lucky draw for all participants to win a pair of diamond rings with the winner being 29-year-old Thammasak Karnchanadul, who won a pair of diamond rings worth $1,533, CBS News reported.

"The hugging marathon has proved many things," Karnchanadul said, according to CBS News. "It has proved my strength physically and mentally. I want to show Thai people that love should be given out to each other."

Some participants were also part of the previous kissing world record, and said that one was a bit easier because contestants could still move, unlike the hugging world record where contestants must keep their arms around each other without letting go.

The rules state that all participants must hug their partners continuously, and both arms must be wrapped around each other at all times, CBS News reported. If the hug weakens or the arms drop, the couple is disqualified.

According to the Guinness World Record rules, each pair must stand and remain awake at all times and can only have a five-minute break each hour, according to CBS News.

"This hugging marathon is very successful," said organizer Somporn Naksuethrong, CBS News reported. "All 26 couples hugging for 26 hours, 26 minutes and 26 seconds is a new world record."
