President Joe Biden accused state Republican authorities of playing politics with human beings by criticizing them for sending migrants north this year in defiance of his administration's immigration policies.
Hours before Biden's remarks, White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre criticized Republican governors. As a nasty, calculated political gimmick, Ron DeSantis and Greg Abbott sent migrants to Martha's Vineyard and Vice President Kamala Harris' residence in Washington, DC.
Biden Says Republicans Use Migrants as 'Props'
Jean-Pierre called the conduct of the governors of Florida and Texas shameful, accusing them of using immigrants as political pawns, which is irresponsible and erroneous in every way. DeSantis deployed two flights hauling migrants to Martha's Vineyard on Wednesday night, according to his administration. Abbott claims that his state dispatched two buses full of migrants to Harris' home in the capital on purpose, and they showed up on Thursday morning.
Approximately 50 migrants came to Martha's Vineyard on two planes on Wednesday, according to the area's Democratic state senator from Massachusetts, Julian Cyr. On Thursday morning in Washington, dozens of migrants were left standing on the pavement and in the grass in front of the gated US Naval Observatory.
The governors' actions-who are both vehement opponents of the Biden administration-are, the most recent in a string of initiatives by Republican governors to transport migrants to progressive cities and states in protest of what they claim are insufficient federal efforts to secure the southern border.
It was very worrisome, according to Jean-Pierre, because the migrants were misinformed about where they were being taken and what would be given to them when they arrived, as per CNN. Biden's statements came in response to a question about migrants being sent to Martha's Vineyard after remarks praising a tentative agreement by railway unions to avoid a strike earlier in the day.
Democrats were the ones who first began the movement of migrants, flying them in the middle of the night from border housing facilities to various locations across the nation. According to Fox News, neither Joe Biden nor the White House brought up this issue.
GOP Leaders Urge Democratic Cities To Feel Migrants Surge's Effects
The Texas border cities of Del Rio and El Paso, among others, have been particularly severely struck by unchecked immigration, something the GOP leaders say they want liberals who support sanctuary cities to fully feel.
Many migrant women, kids, and families grinned as they exited the vehicles. Those who arrived on the bus claimed to have traveled from Venezuela. Abbott's current shipment of migrants appears to have been Abbott's direct response to Harris' remarks on border security. Harris lives in Washington, DC.
The Texas governor has recently dispatched hundreds of the migrants to Chicago, New York City, and Washington, DC, but has not yet made any public remarks regarding this most recent escalation.
Gov. DeSantis boasted that he had flown two planeloads of migrants to wealthy Martha's Vineyard. Abbott claims he is eager to demonstrate to GOP governors the scope of the issue his border cities are suffering from the continuous influx. All of the areas targeted by GOP governors advertise themselves as sanctuary cities that welcome migrants. Abbott contends that the situation should be handled in New York City and Washington, DC, rather than the Texas border towns, which he claims are overburdened.
The Republican Party has been under fire from Eric Adams for their "inhumane" plan to transport refugees to Martha's Vineyard without prior notice, and Abbott has been dubbed a "rogue" governor. Lori Lightfoot, the mayor of Chicago, and Abbott recently spat over the choice, with Lightfoot calling him a racist. Last week, she provoked anger by deciding to relocate migrants from Chicago to a nearby Republican suburb, according to Daily Mail.
