Migrant Crisis: NYC Mayor Eric Adams, Other Democrats Slam Greg Abbott, Ron DeSantis Over Horrible Political Stunt

On Sunday, a number of well-known Democrats denounced recent efforts by Republican governors to transport migrants from the southern border to liberal strongholds in the north in protest of what they saw as insufficient federal efforts to secure the southern border.

The current migrant issue, according to Adams, was humanitarian calamity generated by human hands and calls for all hands on deck collaboration on the part of the US.

Democrats Brand GOP's Migrant Action as Political Stunts

Texas border district Democratic Rep. Henry Cuellar urged the Biden administration to uphold Obama-era immigration regulations that sent individuals back to their native nations. He said, "We need solutions and not theater," as he slammed Republican governors for transferring migrants to other cities.

The Democrats' comments come after Republican Governors Greg Abbott of Texas and Ron DeSantis of Florida sent migrants from their states to Martha's Vineyard in Massachusetts and outside Vice President Kamala Harris' home in Washington, DC.

Last week, according to an estimate from Abbott's administration, over 2,500 migrants had been transported by bus from Texas to New York. Adams, for his part, claimed Abbott and DeSantis were handling individuals in an awful manner and went on to outline some of the circumstances in which migrants were discovered when they landed in New York from border states, as per CNN.

In opposition to President Joe Biden's efforts to repeal Title 42, a Trump-era regulation that prevented migrants from applying for asylum during the pandemic, DeSantis, Abbott, and Arizona Governor Doug Ducey have been sending migrants to northern, Democratic-run cities like New York City, Washington, DC, and Chicago, according to The Hill.

Republicans Call Democrats Hypocrites

Republicans in Congress and other government officials are charging Democrats with hypocrisy after the left attacked the governors of Texas and Florida for sending immigrants to leftist strongholds despite doing the same thing themselves. Rep. Michael Waltz of Florida likened the uproar in Texas and Florida to the comparatively subdued reaction to the Biden administration's ghost flights of primarily unaccompanied minor migrants that were transported in the middle of the night.

It follows the Biden administration's decision to resume charter flights carrying unaccompanied minors from the border with Mexico to Westchester, New York, in April. Republicans criticized the amount of flights that arrived in the middle of the night without being widely publicized, even if these flights also operated during the day.

It's important to note that the Department of Homeland Security, which oversaw the flights, has different powers than governors. Several sources have also indicated that DeSantis' buses may have been used to trick at least some migrants into boarding.

Waltz, however, said that the Republicans' initiatives were the only ones that differed from theirs in that they happened during the day. On Sunday morning, after the Florida governor transported migrants to the affluent, liberal island of Martha's Vineyard, Texas Senator Ted Cruz also intervened to defend DeSantis.

On Twitter on Saturday, Cruz took aim at Vice President Joe Biden, referring to him as the worst human trafficker on the face of the world. It comes amid news that El Paso's Democrat-led city government has been transporting migrants to sanctuary towns for weeks and is requesting funding from the Biden administration despite the White House's rage at GOP governors for doing so.

According to a report this week by KFOX-TV, the Texas border city has sent at least 28 charter buses full of migrants to New York City since August 23 under the direction of Democratic Mayor Oscar Leeser, at a cost of more than $600,000. In accordance with a quarterly compensation procedure for emergency food and lodging for migrants, city officials expect the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to pay for the buses.

The White House accused Abbott in Texas and DeSantis in Florida of treating immigrants like chattel and political pawns, but the buses provided by El Paso have dodged the harsh criticism thrown on them.

Republican leaders claim they are eager to inform liberal sanctuary cities of the burden that unchecked illegal immigration is placing on border communities. Radio personality Bruce Hooley tweeted: "Another example of, 'When Democrats do it, it's absolutely acceptable.'" Conservatives were eager to call attention to the apparent double standard, Daily Mail reported.
