The Iranian leader, President Ebrahim Raisi, categorically stated that no meeting with US President Joe Biden would happen on the sidelines of the UN general assembly. He continued, saying that neither the current nor the previous president had changed.
Raisi Believes Talking With Biden Won't Benefit Iran
While in New York for the UNGA, the Iranian president believes a face-to-face conversation with the current US head of state would be a complete waste of resources but wouldn't revive the 2015 nuclear deal, reported RT.
President Raisi doubts anything will pan out talking to Joe Biden while attending the United Nations General Assembly in New York, nor will it accomplish anything to revive the landmark 2015 nuclear deal.
He spoke to Lesley Stahl in a 60 Minutes interview on CBS News, which aired on Sunday. In the interview, he said that nothing would pan out, but both leaders will make an address at the United Nations General Assembly. No official meeting is scheduled on the itinerary.
The answer to whether there are any differences between US President Joe Biden and Donald Trump is that Tehran does not see any. Both were identical because they both adhered to the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), noted Riff Note.
Iranian leader Raisi added ironically that the new administration in the US claims that they are different from Trump's administration, but we haven't witnessed any real changes.
Iran agreed to certain constraints on its nuclear industry as part of the first nuclear deal, which was approved in 2015 by the United States, United Kingdom, France, Germany, Russia, China, and the European Union. This was done in return for loosening economic sanctions and other benefits.
End of the Nuclear Deal With Iran
This agreement was terminated in 2018 when Donald Trump, who was in office then, decided to renounce the Obama nuclear pact.
One criticism of the agreement is that it had too many flaws, which led to Tehran receiving new sanctions and gradually walking away from the deal. Despite his assurances that the nuclear pact would be reinstated, Joe Biden has made little progress.
A proposal of the new tentative arrangement, which was disclosed last month as a part of efforts to revive the accord, highlighted a four-stage procedure that would start with the prompt removal of sanctions on innumerable Iranian banks and other economic organizations. In turn, it would quickly tone down its nuclear activities.
Recently, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken alleged that Iran had stepped back in deliberations, rendering a quick settlement to the problem improbable. He was referring to the recent version of the suggestion made by the EU in August. The two involved countries have reacted several times.
Others Not Interested To Meet the US Leader
PM Liz Truss decided to pass off meeting Joe Biden but kept other heads of state in her planned itinerary, essentially snubbing the 80-year-old US leader, mentioned Hi India.
She plans to meet with Saudi Arabian Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman before Queen Elizabeth's funeral on Monday.
The Iranian leader President Ebrahim Raisi is convinced nothing will come out of conversing with US President Joe Biden at the UN general assembly, just like the UK PM Liz Truss.
