Authorities reported that Allison Rice was out with her pals in Baton Rouge's Mid City neighborhood just before the shooting. Around 2:20 AM, she was halted at a railroad crossing. He attempted a U-turn when the shots began to fly, witnesses reported 4WWL.

Police have not yet identified a suspect or a motive as of Saturday morning. Mayor-President of Baton Rouge Sharon Weston Broome issued a statement saying, "This senseless violence is utterly reprehensible and Baton Rouge Police officers are diligently investigating to bring the culprit to justice."

Sharon Weston Broome, the mayor-president of Baton Rouge, sent a statement on Twitter denouncing the assault. In order to discuss safety for all college students in Baton Rouge, Broome said she is organizing a meeting with a number of local university leaders, the student government, and law enforcement.

Senator John Kennedy of Louisiana tweeted his sympathy. Allison Rice, a senior at LSU, was killed in an act of senseless violence, Kennedy wrote in the post. Allison Rice was killed in a horrific act of violence. "Becky and I are horrified to learn about it. We are extending our prayers and sincerest sympathies to her family and the LSU community," as reported by CNN.

Russ Turner, a local businessman, claimed he wasn't made aware of the incident until later that morning, when he opened his store. Broken glass was all that was left, but he wasn't shocked that another person had been shot. In a statement, Rice's alma mater, LSU, said: "The LSU community is devastated to hear of senior Allison Rice being slain overnight." Rice was a marketing major.

LSU Students Face Crimes

The 21-year-old, who had previously worked at The Shed BBQ in Baton Rouge with her two brothers, was getting ready for an internship. She was one of our first employees, according to The Shed's owner Luke Forstmann. She was cheerful, upbeat, and perky all the time. She was always around.

Rice's passing marks the 74th death in the East Baton Rouge Parish this year. The senior's passing also follows a spate of crimes that LSU students have recently been involved in.

Another student was shot on August 19 during an attempted heist. Two distinct kidnapping incidents occurred on campus a few days later. The FBI reports that Baton Rouge has one of Louisiana's highest homicide rates. Number one is now held by New Orleans.

In fact, an examination of homicide data from 2022 places New Orleans ahead of St. Louis, Missouri, as the US's murder capital. New Orleans recorded 41 murders per 100,000 residents in the first half of 2022.

In the midst of a morale problem among officers, the city is battling with its lowest police staffing level in modern history. However, the police budget actually saw a large increase in 2022, going from $178 million to $215 million. With a cost of about $570 per citizen, it is close to New York, the city with the highest per-capita expenditure on law enforcement $653 per resident, Daily Mail reported.
