SMU, ranked No. 23 in the nation, continues to make a push for a high seed in March. The Mustangs (19-5) head into Friday's contest looking for their fourth straight win after handing Cincinnati a 76-55 loss on Saturday.

Much of SMU's present success is due to coach Larry Brown, who managed to turn around the basketball program in less than two years.

"I never imagined it could be like this for me at (age) 73. I mean, this is like going back to when I was a freshman coach at North Carolina. I feel exactly the same way until I look in the mirror," Brown said, via the Associated Press. "But I still have the same passion. I love coming to practice, I love being around our coaches. I don't think anybody at my age deserves this, and I love it, and I feel real fortunate. ...

"At Kansas and UCLA, I didn't establish those programs. The traditions at North Carolina, Kansas, UCLA, I've been lucky enough to be part of that, but there's so many people that have done great things there. This program was highly though out, but it was a long time ago. We were hopeful coming here we could be a really terrific program that played at a high level."

Brown's ability to attract recruits and transfers has fielded a competitive basketball team for SMU, one which will likely earn a spot in March's upcoming NCAA tournament.

Rutgers (10-14), meanwhile, has the opportunity to score an upset over a nationally-ranked team. The Scarlet Knights have lost three of their last five games, but the team is coming off a 79-69 win on Saturday over South Florida.
