The Queens straphanger who was viciously attacked by a homeless ex-con in a horrifying incident that was caught on camera may lose sight in her right eye and is now appealing for more police officers to be deployed to the public transportation system.

Police said that on a Tuesday morning, Waheed Foster, a 41-year-old vagrant on parolee who had previously killed his grandmother, dragged Elizabeth Gomes, 33, across the Howard Beach-JFK Airport station before kicking and hitting her in the face.

The victim's husband Clement reported that a week after the assault by a complete stranger with a lengthy criminal history, including a 1995 arrest for the cold-blooded assassination of his 82-year-old grandma, the mother of two young children was still in excruciating pain and could hardly move.

Elizabeth Gomes, a JFK Airport private security employee, described how Waheed Foster approached her on a Manhattan-bound A train in the early morning hours of September 20 and tried to strike up a conversation. Around 5:15 a.m., she disregarded Foster, 41, and left the Howard Beach-JFK Airport station. However, as she turned around, she saw the man following her from behind.

A police complaint describes how Foster chased Gomes up a staircase before violently hitting her with a bottle as she resisted in vain. Foster was recorded on camera jumping the defenseless victim. The victim was grabbed by her shirt and shoved against the wall by Foster, who was wearing a black muscle shirt, white jeans, and red shoes, according to the complaint.

Foster then started throwing punches at the woman before stomping on her head, as per New York Daily News via MSN. He was detained without bail after being charged with assault.

In 1995, when the suspect was only 14 years old, he fatally beat his 82-year-old foster grandmother over money, according to sources. He was also arrested for assaulting a woman with a screwdriver, criminal mischief, robbery, and theft, according to law-enforcement authorities, and he allegedly stabbed a woman in the face at a mental facility in 2010.

He was out on parole for the 2010 assault until 2024 at the time of the attack last week, according to New York Post. Elizabeth Gomes told the New York Post that support is desperately needed for our city.

Police personnel would reportedly be stationed on stations, inside trains. She asserts that her injuries are evidence that the New York City Mayor Eric Adams hasn't increased the number of police officers stationed in subway stations, stating that "obviously, the government or nobody is doing anything for us."

Gomes criticized Adams for traveling to Puerto Rico while crime in his city appeared to be unabated, saying, "When we're out there, we're by ourselves, fighting these battles by ourselves, and what they do is go try to assist other nations who aren't experiencing anything similar to what we are here in our own country."

Adams left on Saturday night for Puerto Rico to help rebuild what he called the sixth borough of New York City after Hurricane Fiona wreaked havoc there. On Tuesday, he came back to the city, Daily Mail reported.

Crime on New York City's transportation system is up 45.8% so far this year compared to the same period in 2021, according to the NYPD. In an effort to combat the rising crime rates, Mayor Eric Adams recently announced that 2,700 subway carriages will have 5,400 cameras installed, as per Fox News.
