Blockbuster On Demand Available for iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch

Blockbuster On Demand is now available for iOS users, according to PCMag.com. Any consumer using a device running on at least iOS 4.3 will be able to use the app that brings a whole host of movies right to your fingertips.

The Blockbuster on Demand app, which was launched by Dish, became available to various devices in January. However, not among those devices—which included Android handsets, Samsung Smart TVs, Roku 2 boxes, PCs and Macs—were the iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch. Now Apple consumers can enjoy the movie streaming service on more of their devices.

"Easier than looking for a kiosk to rent DVDs, Blockbuster on Demand allows you to stream and watch movies in HD instantly on your favorite device," said Blockbuster. "There's no waiting for downloads, just instant streaming."

When Dish bought Blockbuster in 2011 for $320 million, the company contemplated going head to head with Netflix. (Dish bought the dying movie-rental company out of bankruptcy.) However, Dish realized that creating a business model similar to Netflix would be financially difficult. So, the company decided to create a business model in which customers pay as they watch.

In January, Dish announced the closure of 300 Blockbuster stores. It is planning to keep 500 stores open. 26 of those stores are near the Dish headquarters in Colorado.
