Josep Borrell, the top EU diplomat, spoke to envoys in the last annual meeting in Brussels, and he expressed that the bloc is meeting difficulty in areas globally. He added that the reports from the European Union come too late for them to respond to such changes in time.

Brussels Needs To Address Issues Immediately

Borrell mentioned in a statement that envoys of the EU should make their reports fast when something is happening where they are assigned. He added that such events called to attention by the press are unacceptable, reported Euractiv.

He added all diplomats should be ready 24 hours a time, so when something of importance occurs, they must inform Brussels what the case is. Also, he was adamant that anything that happens must be controlled and not learned about in newspapers.

In making an analogy to faster-paced work in national foreign ministries, Borrell advised the ambassadors that he ought to be the best-informed and have all of them all around the world. Watchers had already long highlighted the issue handed down from the Brussels diplomatic service structure.

The first diplomatic service not established by a nation-state is the EU's External Action Service (EEAS), which was put in place well over ten years ago as the eurozone's foreign policy subsidiary and is currently led by Borrell.

All the ambassadors were asked to work faster and take some risks with increased resistance to the bloc to get the job done.

Changes After Russia's Special Operation in Ukraine

Borrell called attention to the choices taken after the Special Operation of Russia on February 24, saying the EU's diplomatic corps should be ready to make big moves and decisions.

He spoke to acting in unprecedented ways, and the war in Ukraine is an instance of utilizing the European Peace Facility to purchase weapons for Kyiv. This is considered something that should not be done, but it happened, citing Politico.

It was emphasized that things change with the times and that anything is possible, but do not stop or hesitate because it might lead to regret.

Borrell criticizes how the bloc still functions in silos, declaring that this configuration did not appear to work and that the European Commission necessitates modifying how it handles situations.

Borrell's comments are made at a time of increasing condemnation over the lack of interaction between Brussels and its EU foreign embassies all across the globe.

A regional desk is handling an EU ploy, and he said because there aren't enough pressing problems to deal with. The internal tensions arise as the EU's diplomatic service is re-exploring its context for intervention on that global stage, particularly since Russia's incursion of Ukraine.

To deal with the discrepancy, Borrell asserted the bloc's positive perception of its standard-setting potential, the Brussels effect. There will also be greater demand as to whether the rest of the world will invest in the European way.

Borrell noted the increased resistance of countries to the bloc, which should be dealt with promptly and not react too late.
