Tom Cruise has recruited a security team after a former colleague threatened him and director Christopher McQuarrie.
The A-lister, 60, and the 'Mission: Impossible' director, 53, hired the security crew after a stunt producer was fired, resulting in angry demonstrations and fears of more reprisals.
Tom Cruise Death Threats
Tom Cruise and McQuarrie are still working on 'Mission: Impossible' 8, largely in the UK, but things have gotten ugly with a former crew member, and now it's a question of taking no risks, a film insider told the site.
According to the publication, the employee was instructed to identify filming locations for scenarios, including one showing a train catastrophe, but his preparations were not carried out in the film, as per Daily Mail. The controversy began when a stunt producer was told his skills were no longer needed, provoking loud protests and worries of more retaliation, according to Vanity Fair.
The filmmaking couple has recruited more heavies to protect them in case things go any ugly than they already have. The conflict was initially reported in French newspapers after the fired production employee filed a lawsuit against Tom, Chris, and Paramount Studios.
'The Top Gun: Maverick' star "is used to having security personnel about him most of the time due to his celebrity, but for Chris, it's a new thing," according to a source, The Sun reported.
Last year, Cruise was in Birmingham filming the latest installment. But now he and his director, Christopher McQuarrie, need more heavyweights. While filming in Birmingham, British Transport Police in Birmingham posted a photo of two cops with the masked movie actor, saying, "I guarantee you, this isn't photoshopped. According to the sources, the sacked employee was instructed to discover filming sites for stunts, including a good train accident scenario, but his proposals were not executed in the film. The production employee has subsequently filed a lawsuit against Cruise, McQuarrie, and Paramount Studios.
Furthermore, he has made contentious claims regarding Russain Oligarchs funding the Cruises' activities, as well as an FBI inquiry into Paramount over the finance. An investigation has been verified by the American security services.
While "it's all gone quite nasty, people involved in the films are convinced everything is perfectly alright, he's just a disgruntled ex-staff member," according to the insider. Cruise's representatives have been contacted for comment on this report.
McQuarrie has directed Cruise in many films, including 2012's 'Jack Reacher,' 2015's 'Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation,' and 2018's 'Mission: Impossible - Fallout.' They are now working on 'Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning,' a two-part film series that will be released in theaters in 2023 and 2024.
Cruise is coming off the immensely successful sequel 'Top Gun: Maverick,' which was delayed due to the pandemic but grossed $714 million domestic and $1.48 billion globally after its release this past May, as per Meaww.
