A former federal prosecutor claims that Hunter Biden, the son of President Joe Biden, won't be charged before the midterm elections in November.
It comes in the wake of news that federal authorities think they have enough proof to charge Hunter Biden with tax offenses and making false claims while buying a gun.
Hunter Biden's Potential Charges
Any charges are likely to be delayed until after the election to prevent the impression of political meddling, according to Gene Rossi, a former federal prosecutor who worked for the Department of Justice for nearly three decades.
If tax charges are brought against Hunter Biden, according to Rossi, it will probably be difficult for him to win a legal battle. However, based on the details provided by CBS News and The Washington Post, Peter Zeidenberg, a fellow former federal prosecutor at the DOJ who now works for ArentFox Schiff, said it is difficult to predict whether charges will be filed.
The activities of Joe Biden's son have been the focus of his political adversaries for years. According to a White House letter from 2019, then-President Trump requested that the Bidens' alleged misdeeds be looked into by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
Hunter Biden had a drug problem, President Joe Biden acknowledged, but said, "he's rectified it and worked on it, and I'm proud of my son", as per News Week via MSN. According to the constitutional lawyer and law professor Mark W. Smith, the president may be able to influence the US attorney to indict Hunter Biden by speaking out against the matter while it is still under investigation.
Five years in prison are possible for lying on a federal form while buying a gun, and an additional 10 years are possible for having a gun while abusing drugs. However, Professor Smith remarked that it is extremely doubtful that Hunter Biden would ever serve a complete term.
President Biden, 80, appeared to concede on live national television that his son lied when he claimed he wasn't a drug addict when buying a gun. Hunter, 52, might be charged with making a false statement on a federal document. In a comprehensive interview, President Biden stated that he is proud of his son for overcoming drug addiction and for penning a book that describes the issues he had with narcotics.
He further stated that at the time of the gun purchase, he was not aware that Hunter had lied on the form concerning his drug use. Agents put together a federal case against Hunter, who is now waiting for Delaware US Attorney David Weiss, a Trump appointee, to decide whether or not to press charges against Biden's sole surviving son, Daily Mail reported.

Hunter Biden Gun Case
Hunter Biden bought a gun in October 2018, according to a weapons transaction report seen by Fox News. Hunter Biden responded "no" when asked if he was "an unlawful user of, or addicted to, marijuana or any depressive, stimulant, narcotic drug, or any other restricted substance" on the weapon transaction report.
After testing positive for cocaine in 2014, Hunter Biden was released from the Navy. Authorities in Delaware launched an inquiry after discovering the gun owned by Hunter Biden in a trash can outside a store close to a school. Hallie Biden, who is the widow of President Biden's late son Beau and was dating Hunter at the time, dumped the gun in the trash, according to a source familiar with the police investigation.
House Republicans have pledged to look into Hunter Biden and any possible conflicts of interest President Biden may have had with his son's business transactions. Since 2018, Hunter Biden has been the subject of a federal investigation, according to Fox News.
