On Monday, two environmental activists vandalized the wax figure of King Charles III at Madame Tussauds in London.
Social media users shared videos of two demonstrators spreading cake on the lifelike replica of the British monarch while donning T-shirts reading 'Just Stop Oil.'
King Charles' Wax Figure Gets Smashed With Cake
The video, which was posted on Just Stop Oil's Twitter account, shows the couple approaching the wax sculptures of Kate Middleton, Prince William, Queen Consort Camilla, and King Charles III.
Demonstrators were spotted taking off their black attire to expose white T-shirts reading 'Just Stop Oil.' A few seconds later, one of the protesters was heard yelling "time for action" before tossing a piece of chocolate cake at the statue.
The Independent claims that following the rally, the protesters addressed the gathering, with one of them reportedly saying, "The demand is easy. Just Stop Oil is a piece of cake."
However, the Metropolitan Police, who responded to the situation right afterwards, said that four persons had been detained for criminal damage as a result of the demonstration. The event on Monday is the most recent in a series of activities taken by protest organizations around Europe. Two protesters hurled mashed potatoes at a Monet artwork in Germany that is worth $110 million on Sunday.
The activists did not inflict any harm, according to the Barberini Museum, since the painting was protected by glass. 'Just Stop Oil' protestors painted the central London Harrods shop orange earlier this month. Two protesters were seen in a social media video painting the upscale department store's windows orange, NDTV reported.
With banners, the protestors also mounted a sit-in protest on Knightsbridge. Some protesters even chained themselves together and nailed themselves to the pavement. 'Just Stop Oil' has issued a warning that its demonstrations will continue until the UK government accedes to its demand to stop issuing any new oil and gas licenses.
Madame Tussauds Museum is Temporarily Closed
In a statement posted on social media, Madame Tussauds addressed the event and said that security had been called in and that the display had been temporarily closed. Per PEOPLE, officials from the museum reported that protesters invaded the 'World Stage' Zone at Madame Tussauds London at around 10:50 a.m. today and appeared to throw what is thought to be cake at our figures of the Royal Family.
The attraction is still open, but our Royal Family is going to be temporarily closed, according to Madame Tussauds. "Our security staff responded with the situation immediately, and we are working closely with the Metropolitan Police on this subject," they said.
King Charles, 73, is seen in the burned effigy wearing a tux and standing next to a wax figure of his wife, Queen Camilla, who matches the backdrop in a light blue gown. Wax figures of Prince William and Kate Middleton, both dressed for an evening attire, stand on each side of the royal pair.
