In the Netflix series 'Dahmer - Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story,' actor Evan Peters stated he was "terrified" to play serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer.
Niecy Nash, Richard Jenkins, and director Ryan Murphy were also on the panel. Peters cited his desire to dig into the psychology of that extreme part of human conduct as the reason he watched Dahmer's 'Dateline' interview from 1994.
Evan Peters Wore Jeffrey Dahmer's Real Clothes
Per Fox News, Murphy claims that for the four months of preparation and the six months of filming, Peters wore lead weights around his arms and lifts in his shoes to match Dahmer's physique. As challenging as it was, he "basically stayed in this character for months," according to Murphy. Dahmer, according to Peters, "has a really straight back. I placed weights on my arms to see what it felt like. He doesn't move his arms as he walks."
During a Q&A session for the show, the 35-year-old actor made an appearance and talked openly about playing Dahmer, who killed 17 boys and men between 1978 and 1991. According to Evan Peters, he spent months getting ready for the part, including recording an audio composite to perfect his voice.
Evan Peters said during the Q&A that the part required "four months of prep, six months of filming," and that he also worked with a dialect coach to perfect his voice because the character had such a "distinct" style of speaking.
According to Daily Mail, Evan Peters claimed that the purpose of the audio composite was to "get inside his mindset" as well as to study his speech patterns. Peters claimed that he wanted to see how the man acted before to the interviews and before he was sentenced to jail.
The three-year undertaking's ultimate product was a resounding success. A staggering 701.37 million hours of the show were viewed in the first three weeks after its debut. The program is currently the second-most-watched English Netflix series ever.
The true crime series' depiction of Dahmer's crimes has made numerous viewers nauseous, and even Dahmer's father, Lionel, has complained that the program "glamorizes" his son's horrific killings.
The American Horror Story actor claimed that for months before to filming, he not only wore Dahmer's clothes but also his accessories, including his glasses, shoes, and pants. In addition, Nash, who portrays Dahmer's next-door neighbor Glenda Cleveland, said she "prayed a lot" for Peters because of the "weighty" nature of the part and wanted to "respect" his preparation for the show.
Jeffrey Dahmer Netflix Series Backlash
Per Metro, the series has drawn a lot of criticism, especially from the families of the deceased who allege they were not informed or consulted before filming started.
In response, the show's creator Murphy claims that they conducted "a very long period" of research and that they asked 20 family members and friends for their opinions but received no response. Murphy emphasized that despite the continued criticism, the production crew was constantly "thinking about the victims."
The goal, according to TV writer Murphy, was to depict a "complex human narrative." The Glee creator also said that none of the family members who had been contacted had replied. Recently, it was made public that Dahmer's father Lionel considering suing the streaming platform, alleging that Netflix did not have authorization to use tapes made by Dahmer's legal team.
Since the start of the series, according to Lionel's assistant, who begged to only be identified as "Jeb" out of concern for his safety, Lionel has been a "nervous wreck," even posting "no trespassing" signs outside his house.
