In a classy steakhouse in New York City, a woman stabbed a tourist, gravely hurting him, and then claims self-defense. She said she was hit and reacted before attacking the victim with a knife, which caused a punctured lung.
Joan Thompson celebrated her 41st birthday at Ruth's Chris Steakhouse on W. 51st on Friday evening. Witnesses said that the 24-year-old victim was among a large group of individuals with his wife. He didn't know Thompson, according to the NY Daily News.
NYC Woman Stabs Tourist
The prosecution claims a video shows the knife stab to the man's back. The victim's wife made disparaging remarks about the restaurant's service and waitstaff, according to the police. It was later discovered that Thompson was extremely violent, according to Yahoo.
The attacker was shown on camera grabbing a steak knife while standing on a seat or chair and yelling. Samantha McCarthy, the district attorney, said this last Saturday. The father of the attacker said that his daughter was harassed and smacked in the face while the situation descended into chaos. His daughter and cousin provided this narrative, saying it was in self-defense.
Thompson stabs a tourist as unidentified workers are on the scene; witnesses provided several information about the incident in the NYC restaurant. Workers admitted that Thompson and her cousin were called "street walkers" and insulted for their appearance.
Carlos Stapleton said, "That's exactly how it started. I was told that he placed his hands on her and that these people left their table to come to my daughter's table to start harassing them for no reason."
In a statement last Sunday, Stapleton said that this was the beginning of the chaos. He explicitly said that his daughter was approached for no reason at all after the victim and his companions left their table. Per Local Today, he said that the victim had touched Thompson before to the incident.
Charges For Self-Defense
However, a woman from the victim's table got up, walked over to the table where his daughter was, and started bothering her. He clarified that his daughter had stated they merely wanted food and did not want a fight. Then, despite the fact that Thompson was merely acting in self-defense, things escalated quickly, with Thompson took the brunt of it.
Barbara Stapleton, 64, said that the woman approached the suspect and threatened to hit her, adding that it was self-defense and that her daughter shouldn't go to prison.
Despite having no criminal history, Thompson was arrested on assault allegations and given a $40,000 bail; nonetheless, she poses a flight risk. It was unusual for her that her father defended what she had done. She remembered being in a restaurant and arguing there, but not stabbing a person.
The victim and her companions instigated the commotion, according to the victim's parents, so the woman who stabbed the tourist in a New York City restaurant claimed self-defense.
