Another premium air defense system from Russia's Rosoboronexport, which produce the earlier S-400 Triumf, is in the Zhuhai Air Show 2022, with its latest S-350E Vityaz air defense systems.
This year's event in China will feature the newest arms from non-western nations; other defense platforms.
Zhuhai Air Show 2022
The airshow began on November 8 and will end on November 13, as mentioned by the organizers, reported EurAsian Times.
According to the press office, Rosoboronexport CEO Alexander Mikheyev stated that the company would participate in Zhuhai, showing cutting-edge Russian defense products such as rotorcraft, all types of armament, and missile defense systems.
The firm will exhibit several air defense systems like Triumf long-range and Vityaz medium-range batteries, including the Tor-E2 short-range air, Verba MANPADS, command and control systems for air defense units on the Zhuhai Air Show 2022, noted TASS.
In July, Russia had been mobilizing the lethal Vityaz missile system in the Leningrad Region.
A month later, the Vityaz was sent to an airbase about 40 miles from Ukraine in its first combat.
History of the S-350E Vityaz
The S-350E Vityaz missile system was first made in 2019 and entered service in February 2020. It is capable of targeting planes, UAVs, cruise missiles, and even ballistic missiles, protecting vulnerable targets where its placed.
Other than Russia, there have been unconfirmed reports that Algeria has also supposedly made the first deployment of the S-350 close to the border with Morocco, per Military Leak. There is no formal verification of the selling of this air defense system.
So far, the S-400 Triumf has been bought by several nations like NATO member Turkey, India, and China, which has not impacted export. Russia could use the Chinese exhibition as a venue to sell its wares to interested nations.
Vityaz is for short to middle-range aerial defense battery made by Almaz-Antey Corporation to retire the obsolete S-300PS made in the '80s, also the BUK M1-2 system used for 20 years. It addresses the danger of modernized standoff systems like ballistic ICBMs and stealth aircraft.
The Vityaz S-350 is designed to counter threats from sophisticated standoff weapons, including tactical ballistic missiles, manned (including stealth) aircraft, medium and heavy unmanned aerial vehicles, and cruise missiles.
The S-350 is attached to wheels, making it highly agile and enabling it to be distributed in a combat position within minutes, whereas the launchers, radars, and control center can all be positioned within a few kilometers of the S-350 air defense system.
Even though the maximum firing range is up to 60 kilometers, analysts believe it may be about 120 kilometers. An S-350 division includes twelve launchers, each with 12 missiles. That being the case, the salvo consists of 144 pieces in total. The S-350 exceeds its rivals in its tubes, anti-jamming, that has a circular scanning mode.
Company CEO Yan Novikov said the system is a second layer to the S-400, with better defensive layers. The system can attack eight targets with two missiles and still track 40 targets on the radar, armed with twelve missiles that can load in tubes. Also, the firm is ready to sell the S-350E Vityaz air defense systems shown in the Zhuhai Air Show 2022.
