The BRICS got a dozen applications from countries interested in being part of this counter-western organization. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stated Tuesday that emerging economies are interested in joining the alternative economic bloc.
BRICS Geared To Counter the West
Lavrov gave the statement about the rising alternative bloc after discussing it with his counterpart Subrahmanyam Jaishankar. He remarked that the enthusiasm for the global association is very optimistic and is still growing, mentioning Algeria, Iran, and Argentina, with more eyeing a spot, reported Anadolu.
The current member countries, which include Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, are all bumping heads to work out a protocol to admit more members in the future.
Lavrov went on to say that the applications had been officially submitted and that the criteria and principles that would guide the acceptance of new members would be provided next. He explained that how the alternative economic bloc develops as it grows will be critical, noted Yenisafak.
Lavrov was all praise for cooperation that has yielded a bilateral trade volume close to $30 billion. He mentioned that Russia and India, as members of BRICS, are in further talks that concern the joint production of advanced arms. Another crucial point is the cooperation in atomic power and space exploration. He also briefly explained how the special military operation is ongoing in Ukraine. Covered the alleged practices of the West that are non-conductive to multipolarity.
Afghanistan Meeting Scheduled in Moscow
The Russian Foreign minister gave his opinion on why no Taliban representatives, who control the country, are not part of these talks in St. Petersburg.
Lavrov explained that the Taliban have not committed to their pledges for reforms that include a less exclusive regime. They have not done so and still have the same structure. He asserted contact with them at all times and stressed that they would be adequately informed after the Moscow format, as nothing would be kept from them, not even secrets.
At the initial discussion that did take place on October 20 last year, the Taliban delegation was headed by Abdul Salam Hanafi, the deputy chairman of the interim government, citing TASS.
The scheduled meeting said the Presidential Envoy for Afghanistan, Zamir Kabulov, will be on the 16th of November.
India Wants To End Ukrainian Conflict
Jaishankar stated that India does not support conflict and that the Ukraine war should be resolved diplomatically. He reasoned that conflicts are not always good, and the fallout can affect the global community.
It was also claimed that Kabul is not getting the attention it deserves and is being ignored. An attempt to catch him off guard on the US and G7 price caps was avoided. The US has been strong-arming India about Russia but has failed. He stated that the Indian government's first duty to its people is to ensure a steady supply of energy from the global market at a reasonable price.
The emergence of BRICS and the opportunities it has for applicant nations noted the Russian Foreign minister how the alternative economic bloc could make a difference from emerging countries.
