NJ College Student, William McCaw, Found Beaten To Death In New Brunswick

A student from Kean University was found beaten to death outside of a home in New Brunswick on Saturday, the New York Daily News reported.

The body of 22-year-old William McCaw was discovered around 10:30 a.m. after a neighbor called 911. According to authorities, his injuries point to death by blunt force trauma though an autopsy has not been performed yet.

Police said there was "no known connection" between McCaw and the many students from Rutgers University that live in the homes by where he was found.

McCaw, a Tennessee native, attended Rutgers before transferring to Kean. Investigators said he would go back to Rutgers occasionally to visit old friends.

"The entire Kean community extends our condolences to the family and friends of William McCaw," university spokesman Adam Shubsda told NJ.com.

Graham Lewis, a Rutgers student and friend of McCaw's, called him "the kindest person in the world."

"He would never hurt a soul and was always smiling," Lewis said in an email to NJ.com. "He loved Rutgers more than he loved his own friends sometimes."

Josh Willner, a senior at Rutgers who lives down the street, said McCaw's death "shakes you up a little bit."

"It was unsettling that it happened on our street," Willner said.

Mike Carroll, a sophomore who lives on a nearby street, said he won't be spending time on that street for a while.

"I definitely feel not as safe as I used to," he said.

No arrests have been made in the case.
