After winning a crucial race in the state of Nevada, the Democrats will keep a majority in the US Senate.

According to projections, Senator Catherine Cortez Masto will defeat former President Donald Trump's ally and Republican candidate Adam Laxalt.

Republicans Fail to Gain Control of Senate

The outcomes represent a sitting party's strongest midterm showing in 20 years. United States President Joe Biden expressed his extreme happiness and stated it was time for Republicans to decide "who they are." Republican Party's "violent rhetoric," in his words, was rejected by the American people, according to Democratic Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, as per BBC News.

Republicans will now hold 49 Senate seats, leaving 50 seats for Democrats. Georgia will have a run-off for the last seat in December. Vice President Kamala Harris has the casting vote if there is a tie vote in the Senate between the two parties.

As results from a few districts continue to be counted following Tuesday's elections, Republicans may still win control of the US House of Representatives. Much of Biden's goals might still be thwarted if the Republicans take back the House. Throughout the midterm elections, Cortez Masto and her opponent Adam Laxalt were tied for first place. The Republican rose to fame two years ago for fighting against fake election fraud allegations made by the late President Trump.

Laxalt was gaining support from Latino voters, who account up one in five eligible voters in Nevada, according to a recent survey. However, Cortez Masto was able to win, which gave her party control of the Senate.

The GOP had proclaimed expectations of a "red wave" sweeping the country to seize control of the House of Representatives. Ron DeSantis and Marco Rubio, who were re-elected to the Senate and governorship of Florida, respectively, were among the first significant GOP wins.

Republicans Blame Trump For Losing in Senate Race

The Democrats outpaced their rivals in the 2022 midterm elections, despite their gains. Speaking at a meeting in Cambodia, a beaming Joe Biden said of the results: "I'm not surprised by the turnout. I'm incredibly pleased."

The victory has increased his party's confidence in their capacity to hold onto power and control of the Senate, and the President has praised it. Although it appears to be quite the reverse, Biden thought that the present high inflation could have caused voters to punish him in the polls.

The party in the White House generally loses considerably in the midterm elections, thus the Democrats broke historical norms by winning the majority. The matter of who will control the House of Representatives is still up for debate.

A double victory, according to Biden, would be a "stretch" for his party despite the Republicans greatly overestimating their chances of winning. Despite the fact that his daughter Tiffany's wedding took occurred this past weekend, Donald Trump has already expressed his disappointment with the outcomes, as per The Sun.

Ron DeSantis is currently in the lead for the Republican Party's selection for president in 2024 after senior Republicans blamed Donald Trump for the US Senate race defeat.

Days before the former president's anticipated declaration that he will compete for the White House in 2024, several of his erstwhile supporters turned against him. Chris Christie, a former Trump ally, was one of several who accused the outgoing leader of failing to bring about the expected Republican "red wave," The Telegraph reported.
