Former US President Barack Obama commended on Thursday the campaign system that helped Democratic candidates win several midterm elections in states that will be crucial in the 2024 presidential election by defeating opponents who refused to acknowledge the integrity of the polls.

On "The Daily Show," Obama remarked that Republicans "got thumped" and "got beat" in the secretary of state and governor's races, wherein a politician may do damage in the next presidential election, as reported by CNN.

Host Trevor Noah emphasized that despite the victories at the state level, several Republican candidates who have made baseless accusations about rampant voter fraud were elected to the US House of Representatives based on the US Midterm Election results,

Though, Obama doubted how many GOP candidates believed "some of the nonsense" they preached. He suggested most were trolling Democrats or seeking to curry favor with Republican leader Donald Trump.

What Made Democrats Win the Important Midterms Races?

Democrats retained control of the Senate per the result of the US Senate race, which could increase their advantage if Democratic Sen. Raphael Warnock defeats Republican Sen. Herschel Walker in their Georgia run-off election next month, while Republicans flipped control of the House. It is anticipated that their margin of victory will be narrow in the US Midterm Election results.

Barack Obama pointed out that the reason Democrats overcame challenges was due to the top-notch candidates in the party. He cited the incoming governors of Maryland and Pennsylvania, Wes Moore and Josh Shapiro, and Senate candidates John Fetterman and Mark Kelly as examples. The former chief executive said that they are "committed, passionate, and down to earth," which connected them with the people.

Barack Obama also commended young voters who firmly supported Democrats. He emphasized that this was a substantial improvement in this year's US Midterm Election results from the drubbing the Democrats had in the 2010 midterm elections.

Moreover, Obama lambasted people who lie online on purpose and the growth of partisan groups that make it hard for people to debate based on facts.

Obama Holds Forum To Protect and Promote Democracy

In collaboration with Columbia University and the University of Chicago, the Obama Foundation held its first-ever Democracy Forum on Thursday at the Javits Center in New York City. The Obama Foundation embarked on its first Democracy Forum Thursday at the Javits Center in New York.

The forum brings together prominent scholars and practitioners who are reinventing our institutions and bolstering democratic principles around the world with future leaders from across Obama Foundation programs.

The Obama Foundation stated that the forum's first iteration would provide a venue for the exchange of ideas necessary to "keep democracies alive."

In his opening remarks, Barack Obama highlighted that "well-democracies" are under attack across the globe.

"We see it in the escalating polarization and disinformation that's so evident in recent elections whether it's in Brazil, the Philippines, Italy, Sweden, and right here in the United States," Obama said, as reported by ABS-CBN News.

He noted that the present dangers to democracy have nothing to do with "traditional partisan lines or policy preferences." Obama said that the attacks now are focused on the basic foundations of democracy, such as the electoral system.

Scholars from Columbia and the University of Chicago, leaders from Africa and Asia-Pacific, the first class of 100 Voyager Scholarship recipients, beneficiaries of the Obama-Chesky Scholarship for Public Service, and other program graduates attended the democracy summit, according to The Obama Foundation's website.
