Rapper Kanye West, who is now known as Ye, unveiled a campaign video on Thursday for a 2024 run for president, in which he criticizes ex-President Donald Trump for disrespecting him and his former wife in a past encounter.
In a video he posted on Twitter, Ye explained that Trump was perplexed and angered by his offer of a vice presidential nomination, as reported by Fox News.
"I think the thing Trump was most perturbed about was me asking him to be my vice president," Ye said in the video. The music magnate and owner of the "Yeezy" apparel line believes it was less surprising to him than other things.
Ye made these remarks at a "debriefing" session following his October 2018 visit to the White House and meeting with then-President Trump.
In the political advertisement released on Thursday, Ye criticized Trump for doing little to legally defend people who broke into the US Capitol Building on January 6, 2021, when he was president.
When asked about his meeting with Donald Trump, Kanye West noted that he "walked in with intelligence" as a person who adores the Republican leader and encouraged the president to pay more attention to his supporters.
Ye reflects on the incident in the video, saying, "He essentially gives me this would-be mob-esque sort of scenario of all that he went through to get Alice Johnson out of jail and that he did not do it for Kim [Kardashian], but he did it for me."
Kanye West said that the former president disrespected his then-wife Kim Kardashian and then yelled at him, saying he was "going to lose."
But Ye expressed confidence that his defeat would not happen."Hold on, you're talking to Ye."
Kanye Eyes Another Shot at the US Presidency
After a failed presidential bid in 2020, Kanye West plans another run in 2024. Although Ye has not made a formal announcement regarding Kanye West 2024 US Presidential elections, he has previously mentioned that he plans to run for president in 2024.
The award-winning rapper confirmed his planned campaign to paparazzi this past weekend, as per a report from Billboard, citing a story from Consequence of Sound noting that he is running for president because he's "moving toward the future."
Ye also stated that Milo Yiannopoulos "is working on the campaign," a prominent figure in the alt-right political movement. Before working as an intern for Republican congressman Marjorie Taylor Greene, Yiannopoulos was a senior editor at Breitbart.
There has been no public announcement of West and Yiannopoulos' political alliance on any of their social media accounts.
Just For Publicity
Most people who know Kanye West know that his move only aims to provoke the world. Many believe Kanye West knows he won't win but wants the exposure from announcing it, per Marca.
The rapper used the hashtag "Birthday Party" to mark the beginning of his unlikely presidential campaign on July 4, 2020. He barely received 70,000 votes since he registered late for the party, did not make many campaign appearances, and only released two videos at the very end.
Kanye West has had a particularly contentious year, spewing antisemitic tirades, using harsh language to criticize Kim Kardashian's ex-boyfriend Pete Davidson, and hawking a "White Lives Matter" t-shirt while introducing his Yeezy brand at Paris Fashion Week, which may affect Kanye West 2024 US Presidential elections.
On November 15, Donald Trump formally announced that he would join the 2024 presidential race with the slogan "make America great and glorious again."
