During a lengthy discussion on free speech, changes he has made to Twitter, and the release of internal communications from the fall of 2020 about what motivated the tech giant to bury the Hunter Biden laptop story, Elon Musk stated on Saturday night that there is some risk to his safety.
During the almost two-hour conversation, the new owner of Twitter argued about the value of the free expression and his plans for the website, as per Fox News.
Hunter Biden Laptop Story Revelation
The meeting took place the day after journalist Matt Taibbi disclosed top-level internal emails from Twitter, which revealed that the social media site blocked and restricted individuals who left comments on the New York Post's report about Hunter Biden's laptop.
The Twitter Files, a compilation of internal documents made public by writer Matt Taibbi on Friday, were the focus of a large portion of Musk's conversation on Twitter Spaces, which took place on Saturday night local time.
In October 2020, only a few weeks before Joe Biden was elected US President, Taibbi's thread had files that showed Joe Biden's team giving instructions to Twitter staff members to block particular political content.
According to the NY Post, the contents of Biden's son Hunter's laptop have been the subject of controversy. Screenshots of correspondence show that Twitter workers purposefully suspended, blocked, or censored people who commented on the matter.
Elon Musk is Expected to Decline Public Appearances
Musk claimed to have given Taibbi and journalist Bari Weiss unfettered access to old internal documents, hinting that there would be more to come and referring to them as "episode two" of the Twitter Files.
Musk did admit that there were a few cases where I think we should have removed some email addresses from the Twitter Files leak during the Twitter Spaces chat. Per Daily Wire, the report comes after Musk said that the risk to his security has escalated recently during a chat on Twitter Spaces on Saturday afternoon.
Listeners were informed by Musk that he will "definitely" refrain from participating in any open-air car parades. The possibility of something awful happening to me, or even just being shot, is extremely high.
The statements from Musk follow his late-week publication of internal company documents, which revealed that the corporation had previously suppressed conservatives at the Democrat Party's request.
Twitter's former head of trust and safety alleged on Friday night that Musk was endangering people's lives by disclosing the records demonstrating how company employees had blocked not only conservatives but also the unfavorable news article about Joe Biden's son in the run-up to the 2020 election.
After the platform banned the explosive New York Post revelation regarding Hunter Biden's laptop, Musk said that he decided to make the material public because it was "essential to restore public trust" in the platform.
