The suspect, Zyaire Crumbley,18, turned himself in with his mother and an attorney Monday night to face criminal charges in the murder of Saniyah Lawrence in a flat on Adam Clayton Powell Jr. last Sunday night. Boulevard near W. 136th St., reported NY Daily.

He was charged with attempted murder in connection with an October 27 shooting on Vermilyea Ave. in Inwood.

He supposedly began firing on a rival, shooting more than once and striking no one. Based on a police source, eyewitness accounts at the scene recognized him as the gunman, noted Yahoo! Sports.

As said by police officials, he is wanted for questioning in three thefts when he supposedly mortally cuts Lawrence in a violent rage. He has yet to be formally charged with the thefts.

Last Sunday, when the suspect was with Lawrence, someone called her at 5:40 pm, said the police.

He suspected the call was from someone else; when the suspect got a hold of his girlfriend's mobile phone and did not want to return it.

She screamed at the girl and threatened to kill her, but she wanted the phone back, said the court.

Both were fighting over the mobile phone when the stabbing happened. Lawrence got fatally knifed in the neck, said the prosecutors. He then ran out of the apartment with the doomed girl's phone, citing NY1.

One witness saw the girl holding her bloody neck and the accused with the blood-soaked knife, remarked authorities.

Lawrence was brought to the Harlem Hospital but died from the fatal injury. The coroner did an autopsy of the teen girl and said a torso and neck stab was revealed.

On Tuesday, the girl's grandmother on the mother's side, Denise Jackson, 51, asked why he had to murder her granddaughter.

Teen Also Suspect in an October Shooting Incident

The police knew that Crumbley killed Lawrence as the suspected killer and went to known relatives; at that time, he surrendered. They told him to go to the police and admit the crime.

Wearing a surgical mask, orange-teal jacket, black pants, and sneakers, the cops took him out from the 32nd Precinct stationhouse last Tuesday.

No bail was ordered by the Manhattan Criminal Court judge when arraigned late Tuesday.

Another resident told the media about what happened, having woken up one night and heard the going on in the apartment of Lawrence.

One person said he was with the suspect in juvenile detention, who wanted anonymity. Added that helping the suspect did not work; and failed.

He had four theft arrests, one for probation from May, and two more cases are still being investigated.

A vigil will be held by Domestic violence advocates for Lawrence at 5:30 pm last Tuesday on the street of the residence. The New York teen stabs his girlfriend and is implicated in an October shooting.
