For traveling for a Caribbean vacation when millions of Americans are suffering under the "blizzard of the century," which has claimed more than 50 lives nationwide, Joe Biden is receiving a barrage of criticism.

The US president and his family arrived late on Tuesday night in St. Croix, in the US Virgin Islands, and will stay there until the new year.

At home, reports of families being stranded for days are emerging as a result of the massive storm that devastated New York State and flight travelers across over the Christmas holiday, killing hundreds of people.

After three more fatalities were reported in western New York's Erie County, the number of deaths linked to the winter storm increased to more than 50, Telegraph reported. Byron Brown, the mayor of Buffalo, which has been rendered helpless for five days by chest-deep snow banks and power outages, stated that the police department "expects that number to grow."

Buffalo native and governor of New York State, Kathy Hochul, compared the storm's aftermath to "a battle zone." In order to prevent the general population from impeding the cleanup effort, military police have enforced a driving restriction across the city. But for some, it arrived too late.

As temperatures fell, commuters and even locals escaping their chilly houses became stuck on highways and couldn't be rescued since ambulances and even snowplows couldn't access the routes. According to flight tracking website FlightAware.com, 5,900 flights were canceled nationwide on Tuesday and Wednesday, disrupting millions of people's holiday plans.

Now, attention is shifting to the end of the week, when temperatures are anticipated to climb and rain is anticipated to pour, perhaps resulting in severe flooding. No matter where the president is, he is always working, according to the White House. Tuesday night, the president landed after a trouble-free, uneventful journey on Air Force One, while the majority of the nation is experiencing severe travel havoc and widespread power outages as a result of a powerful bomb cyclone storm.

After spending New Year's Eve on the island, the first family will depart for Washington, DC, on January 2. The Nevilles are not paying for the Bidens to reside there. On St. Croix, a five-star family vacation villa may cost up to $5,000 per night.

Per Daily Mail, the first family is residing in Solitude Bay, a gated neighborhood with a private beach. According to real estate websites, homes there are capable of selling for approximately $3 million. The average temperature on St. Croix is in the 80s, and bright skies are predicted for the upcoming week, so they will have a nice break from the cold.

Meanwhile, cold weather has claimed lives around the East Coast and Midwest. With at least 32 fatalities, Buffalo in Western New York has been the most severely hit.

Prior to departing on vacation, Biden offered help for some disaster relief work by providing federal funding to New York on Monday. He also had a conversation with Kathy Hochul, the governor of New York, and he was briefed on the storm by federal authorities.

Ted Cruz Mocks Joe Biden

While the president and his family are relaxing in the sun, there won't be another domestic crisis since the Supreme Court decided that the Trump administration's Title 42 border limitation will remain in place at least until February.

The nation's highest court decided to maintain the immigration policy by a 5-4 vote, but it will decide in 2023 whether the group of 19 attorney generals from states with a Republican governor, including Texas and Arizona, should be permitted to intervene in defense of the policy as determined by the lower courts.

After the Bidens left, the policy was set to expire at midnight on December 27. Without Title 42, a new wave of border crossers was anticipated to head for the US-Mexico border. Meanwhile, Texas Sen. Ted Cruz has commented on the criticism from the left on Joe Biden's family vacation to the US Virgin Islands.

Cruz tweeted a Fox News segment about the president's holiday plans on Tuesday with the phrase "Enjoy St. Croix" and the emojis for a palm tree, a cocktail, and the sun. The president will continue to work throughout the break, according to the White House, which has justified the vacation.

Cruz's post looked to be a joking response to the Republican's backlash for traveling to Cancun, Mexico, in February 2021 when a catastrophic winter storm was raging in Texas. When Texas had power outages and no running water during bitterly cold conditions, the senator faced criticism for leaving for Cancun with his family.

Cruz's initial justification for his conduct was that he traveled to Cancun in order to "be a good dad" after his kids requested to take a trip with friends when school was canceled, according to Newsweek.
