Former United States President Donald Trump is reportedly looking for a running mate to shore up support for his 2024 Presidential Campaign. He is allegedly looking through binders filled with Make America Great Again (MAGA) women.

Instead of choosing someone who would be considered a safe and convention option, the Republican businessman is geared up to pair with a loyalist. Unlike former Vice President Mike Pence, this running mate would be willing to walk with Trump through the controversies he is expected to spark.

Donald Trump's 2024 Running Mate

At the top of the ex-POTUS' list of viable candidates for his 2024 campaign are GOP representatives Marjorie Taylor Greene and Elise Stefanik. The two Republican lawmakers have been defensive of Trump's stance since he left office after losing the presidency to Democrat Joe Biden.

Despite her long track record of outrageous remarks and incidents, Greene is the most viable option for Trump. The Georgia GOP member, who previously championed Kevin McCarthy during his chaotic speakership run, is one of the biggest fundraisers for the GOP in the House, as per Vanity Fair.

Furthermore, thanks to Greene's speeches at Trump rallies, she has already become a fan favorite among the MAGA faithful. If the former president's plan for his new campaign is to have his running mate lean in simply, then partnering up with the Georgia Republican seems to be the best choice.

On the other hand, Stefanik and her conservative credentials are slightly less solid than Greene's. She was previously a Trump critic in the 2016 election and during the early days of his presidency. Since then, the New York lawmaker remade her brand by zealously linking herself to the former president.

This was evidenced by her becoming the first to support Trump's 2024 campaign after serving as the former president's congressional guard dog during the two times that he was impeached. A third name included in potential running mates for Trump is Tulsi Gabbard, formerly part of the Democratic Party.

Shoring Up Support

The situation comes as Trump is planning to hold his first public campaign event for 2023 in South Carolina. His aides are portraying this as the former president's first step into a more public phase of his 2024 presidential run, according to Politico.

The former president is expected to appear in Columbia, South Carolina, in late January for the event. Trump's advisers noted that it would not be a rally but something more "intimate" where he will roll out his leadership operation in a state that hosts a critical early Republican primary contest.

Trump's political influence in Texas, a state where he was once considered a powerhouse, is waning. Roughly two months following his announcement of his 2024 campaign, only a few prominent Texas GOP members have endorsed his bid.

Others are now showing more willingness to defy the former president publicly, an act that seemed taboo shortly after he left office. Disagreement between Trump and other Republicans results from the former president's blaming of abortion restrictions for the GOP's midterm performance, said the Texas Tribune.
