From a Facebook Live video captured by a passenger on January 15, 2023, harrowing footage portrays the last moments of an airplane accident in Nepal. A group of Indian friends looked to be having a good time as they recorded the airplane's descent into Pokhara.

There were 72 passengers and staff aboard the airplane, and no one was thought to have survived.

One can hear the friends laughing. The aircraft looked to tremble, followed by sounds of crashes, and then the entire screen was consumed by flames. Before the video concluded, images of airplane debris engulfed in flames and smoke were momentarily apparent.

Numerous independent media outlets and local fact-checkers, who contacted relatives and friends of the Indian passengers, confirmed the authenticity of the clip; a close examination of the tape revealed that it was from the Yeti Airlines flight that landed in Pokhara. Indian media has published the footage.

Sonu Jaiswal, a 29-year-old father of three small children who were touring temples and intending to paraglide with his buddies in Nepal's Annapurna mountain range, apparently captured the clip.

Vishal Koswal, a friend of Jaiswal's, verified that the video was taken from Jaiswal's phone and that the other males in the video were Anil Rajbhar, Vishal Sharma, and Abhishek Singh Kushwaha.

Koswal explained that he had intended to accompany them on the trip, but remained at home due to the loss of a relative. The names of the males in the video have also been confirmed by local law enforcement.

Koswal had many video calls with them before the flight. Additionally, the Indian fact-checking website Boom Live conducted a thorough analysis of the clip. It was mentioned that the poster on the back of the passenger seat in the video included notable Nepali and Hindi cinema celebrities.

They confirmed that the sporting venues seen in the overhead picture of the city were the Pokhara Football Stadium and the Pokhara Cricket Ground. While Jaiswal's Facebook account was private, the profile photo was identical to the one shown in the corner of the live stream.

Nepal Fact Check also provided a passenger list of the foreigners on the aircraft, which corroborated the identities of the Indian friends, as per Snopes.

Nepal Plane Crash is Deadliest Since 1992

The clip depicts the aircraft approaching the airport and executing a sharp left turn before leaving the frame. The aircraft then impacts the ground with a loud sound.

Hundreds of rescue personnel combed the slope where the plane crashed, and ongoing recovery attempts can be seen in social media footage depicting smoke pouring from the location.

The tragedy is the deadliest in Nepal since 1992, when 167 people perished when a Pakistan International Airlines Airbus A300 slammed into a mountainside as it entered Kathmandu, The Independent reported.

Since the year 2000, about 350 people have perished in plane or helicopter accidents in Nepal, which is home to eight of the fourteen highest mountains in the world, including Mount Everest, where unexpected weather changes can create hazardous travel circumstances.
