In Wednesday's 122-118 victory against the Minnesota Timberwolves, Nikola Jokic surpassed Alex English, a member of the Basketball Hall of Fame, to become the team leader in assists.
In the third quarter, Nikola Jokic dished off to Kentavious Caldwell-Pope for an inbound play that resulted in an easy dunk for the latter. This was the 3,680th assist of Jokic's career.
The crowd gave Jokic a standing ovation, and his teammates made a point of joining in on the celebration. Nuggets legend Alex English posted admiration on social media for the Serbian standout, noting he expected his all-time assist record to be shattered one day.
"I'm honored to see that it's 2-time, I mean 3-time MVP of the NBA do it. Congrats, big fella," English tweeted. In 837 games with the Denver Nuggets, English racked up 3,679 assists. In his 568th career game, Jokic holds the franchise's records for assists, defensive rebounds, and overall rebounds.

Jokic, Nuggets Dominate The NBA Season
So far this season, "The Joker" is averaging 25.1 points, 11 boards, and 9.9 assists in 50.3 minutes per game. His outstanding play has kept him in the running for NBA MVP all season. Per the NBA, Nikola Jokic has the chance to become the first player to win MVP three times since Larry Bird in the 1980s.
The Denver Nuggets are currently riding a wave of dominance that has propelled them to a 32-13 record and first place in the Western Conference. Most of their recent victories have been compelling ones, as reported by Yahoo! Sports.
John Stockton, a former player for the Utah Jazz, currently holds the all-time NBA assists record with 15,806, per the BBC.
