A 67-year-old man was apprehended following two shootings that left seven people dead in a coastal California town.

Two occurrences, one at a mushroom farm and the other at a trucking company, occurred on the outskirts of Half Moon Bay. Dave Pine, the head of the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors, stated that four persons were murdered on the farm and three at the trucking company.

Pine stated that a 67-year-old man, whom he referred to as a "disgruntled employee" at one of the firms, was brought into custody around two hours after the initial incident. The police think that the suspect, identified as Chunli Zhao, acted alone.

An officer saw Zhao's vehicle in the parking area of a San Mateo County Sheriff's Department substation, according to a sheriff's department statement cited by the San Francisco Chronicle.

The firearm was recovered in his vehicle, according to the report. It was unclear how the two areas were related at first glance. About 48 kilometers south of San Francisco is Half Moon Bay.

Senator for California Josh Becker stated that many gunshots resulted in fatalities. Supervisor of San Mateo County David Canepa tweeted that a gunshot occurred at a mushroom farm.

Just before 5 p.m., the San Mateo County Sheriff's Office announced through Twitter that a suspect was in custody. Currently, there is no ongoing threat to the community, according to the sheriff's office.

Victims Are Asian-American Farm Workers

Television images from the region saw authorities arresting a guy without incident, as per ABC.net. Corpus stated that the victims are suspected to be workers on the homes. The victims, according to Half Moon Bay Councilmember Debbie Ruddock, are Chinese farm workers. At IDES Hall, 735 Main St. in Half Moon Bay, a family reunion facility has been established.

"This type of shooting is horrifying," said Corpus. "It's a tragedy that we hear about much too frequently, but tonight it has struck close to home in San Mateo County."

Governor Gavin Newsom of California stated that he was speaking with victims of the incident in Monterey Park when he learned of the horrific shooting in Half Moon Bay, NBC Bay Area reported. Workers at Mountain Mushroom Farm were questioned by a large number of police outside of a cluster of residential trailer-style structures. A coroner has arrived.

According to officials, a suspect is in custody and there is no current threat to the community. Local TV broadcasts showed police handcuffing and arresting a man along Kelly Avenue while saying, "Put your hands in the air!" Get down on the ground and exit the car!"

The incident in the Half Moon Bay region, just south of San Francisco, follows a weekend mass shooting in Southern California, in which ten people were murdered and countless more were injured during Lunar New Year celebrations outside of Los Angeles.

Per The Independent, San Mateo County Supervisor said, "This is just tragic in view of what has transpired. This is an occurrence about which we are all shocked."
