Former United States President Donald Trump kicked off his 2024 presidential campaign run on Saturday with a warning of a potential World War III brought by the incompetence of the Biden administration.
The Republican businessman visited two vital early-voting states; the first was New Hampshire, where he suggested that he would increase campaign events, laid out an agenda that focused on crime, immigration, and education, and also criticized the investigation into classified documents that were found at his Mar-a-Lago residence.
Trump Kicks Off 2024 Presidential Campaign
Trump said this was all about the beginning, noting that he was starting his fight to be a candidate for president of the United States. Speaking at the New Hampshire Republican Party's annual meeting, he said that to save the country, a leader was needed who was prepared to take on the forces that laid waste to the nation.
The former president sought to re-energize his campaign run when he addressed skepticism and criticisms that he has not been on the road since announcing his plans in November last year, according to ABC News.
Trump noted that some people accused him of not doing rallies and simply campaigning, with some saying he has lost that step. He pushed back against such claims, saying he was furious now and more committed than ever.
Furthermore, the former president took a shot at Democratic lawmakers, saying that the party's planned 2024 presidential primary calendar would strip New Hampshire's first-in-the-nation primary status.
If he was elected, Trump said he would ensure that the state would remain the first in the nation for Republican primaries. He also named outgoing state GOP Chairman Stephen Stepanek as his senior adviser for his New Hampshire campaign.
World War III Warning
Trump claims he is the Republican best equipped to win the nomination to defeat Joe Biden. The former president also said that the Democratic leader brought the United States to the brink of World War III through weakness and incompetence, according to NBC News.
Recent polls showed that the former president is leading Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, who is seen as the second choice for a GOP presidential nominee, by at least 19 points. However, some signs of support for Trump were diminishing in some parts of the United States.
A recent University of New Hampshire survey released this week showed DeSantis leading the former president 42% to 30%. Traditionally, the state holds the country's first primary following the Iowa caucuses.
During Trump's twin speeches on Saturday, the second being in South Carolina, the former president painted a grim picture of the country under the Biden administration. He committed to reversing inflation, securing the US border with Mexico, and fortifying the country's position as a global powerhouse.
During the campaign events, Trump once again denied his 2020 presidential election loss against Biden. He also said that to change the system, the country needed a president who could take on the whole system and one who could win, said BBC.
