On Monday, the trial of a woman accused of poisoning her friend with cheesecake began in the New York City borough of Queens.

According to prosecutors, the suspect intended to murder the victim and assume her identity. When Olga Svyk was asked if the individual who attempted to poison her with cheesecake was in the courtroom, there was a moment of tense silence and the two locked eyes for the first time in years.

Woman Killed Instagram Lookalike

According to the prosecution, Viktoria Nasyrova of Brooklyn wanted Syvk dead. Assistant District Attorney Konstantinos Litourgis stated that in August 2016, Nasyrova contacted Svyk, a skin beautification technician who specializes in eyelashes, regarding an eyelash emergency.

The district attorney claimed Nasyrova invited Syvk to her Queens residence for a quick fix. Allegedly, Nasyrova brought cheesecake laced with a potentially lethal substance found only in Russia.

A friend testified that paramedics discovered Svyk passed out and surrounded by pills. The district attorney stated that Nasyrova chose a victim who resembled her at the time; both had dark hair, the same skin tone, and the ability to speak Russian.

The prosecution asserts that Nasyrova was arrested with the victim's passport. Litourgis asserts that Nasyrova is a Russian fugitive wanted for the 2014 murder of a woman. According to prosecutors, Nasyrova was on police radar before allegedly targeting Svyk, who was suspected of drugging and robbing men she met on dating websites in Brooklyn.

Tsvyk testified that Nasyrova consumed two slices of cheesecake and offered her a third slice, which prosecutors claim was laced with the potent Russian tranquilizer phenazepam. Prosecutors assert that the Russian national then stole her lookalike friend's passport, cash, and other property, scattering pills over the victim's body to make it appear as if she had attempted suicide.

Litourgis argued that one of her few blunders was leaving her DNA on the cheesecake container, and that there was additional proof that she attempted to murder Tsvyk. A Queens man who claims he was drugged by Nasyrova after they met on a Russian dating site in 2016 is one of the star witnesses the prosecution plans to call throughout the trial.

The man ate fish and vegetables prepared by Nasyrova, according to Litourgis, and awoke three days later at Columbia Presbyterian hospital.

Suspect's Prior Crimes

When Nasyrova was accused of drugging and robbing men she met on dating apps in 2019, she pleaded guilty to attempted petit larceny in Brooklyn Supreme Court. Meanwhile, Christopher Hoyt, Nasyrova's defense attorney, told jurors on Monday that the current case against the Russian national was not as clear-cut as prosecutors wanted them to believe.

From Rikers Island, Nasyrova previously stated that the cheesecake incident was merely a misunderstanding. The poisoning case in Queens is the most recent in a series of alleged crimes linked to Nasyrova. She is also accused of drugging and murdering her Russian neighbor, torching the body, and fleeing to New York City. In the Queens case, Nasyrova faces up to 25 years in prison if convicted of attempted murder, burglary, and other charges.

Due to their complexion and straight black hair, as well as the heavy makeup found on the victim's body, the police determined that the victim and Sharaban K were strikingly similar in appearance.

Sharaban K and Sheqir K, a friend alleged of aiding in the scheme, were arrested by police on August 19, but the full scope of the case and their alleged motivations were not made public until Monday. It is believed that a family dispute prompted Sharaban K to look for a way to fake her death.

Grieser added that investigations uncovered numerous attempts by Sharaban K to contact women who resembled her on social media in the week preceding the alleged attack. She ultimately succeeded in arranging a meeting with Khadidja O by offering cosmetics, despite the fact that many of her previous attempts had been unsuccessful.

Sheqir K and Sharaban K are accused of abducting the victim, transporting her to a wooded area between Heilbronn and Ingolstadt, and stabbing her to death. Both women were issued arrest warrants on Thursday and Friday, If convicted they each face life in prison.
