United States President Joe Biden warned Xi Jinping in his State of the Union Address that he would defend US sovereignty against Chinese threats.

As diplomatic tensions rise and new details surface about a massive Chinese balloon monitoring operation, President Biden publicly criticized Beijing on Tuesday in front of millions of people in the United States and across the globe, as per CNN.

Biden State of The Union reminded Xi that Washington prefers "competition" not confrontation, but he also noted that US investments in its allies, military, and sophisticated technology put America in its strongest position in years to confront China and protect its interests.

President Joe Biden said: "Make no mistake: as we made clear last week, if China threatens our sovereignty, we will act to protect our country. And we did." He referred to the incident Saturday when a US aircraft launched a missile that destroyed the alleged Chinese spy balloon off the east coast after it had hovered over the US and Canada for days.

A More Relaxed Speech This Year

In the early half of Tuesday's Biden speech, the POTUS appeared more relaxed, according to Slate. For instance, consider his refreshingly honest and forthright advocacy of higher taxes for companies and the wealthy.

The Biden State of The Union speech noted that unemployment rates are at historic lows. According to Joe Biden, the two factors that have been a major drag on his favor ratings over the last 18 months-inflation and high energy prices-are finally starting to decline. He emphasized how his legislative achievements can boost the US industrial foundation, the BBC reported.

President Joe Biden, though, did not address the latest earthquake in Syria and Turkey or the humanitarian issue.
