The Chiefs' head coach, Andy Reid, is allegedly mulling a potential retirement as he said he would announce his team's Super Bowl game.
The head coach of the Kansas City Chiefs, Andy Reid, signaled that this year could be the last time he would work as an NFL coach. Jay Glazer from Fox Sports said he spoke to Reid hours before the Super Bowl.
Andy Reid's Retirement
Reid, five weeks away from his 65th birthday, allegedly talked about the possibility of retiring after the game on Sunday. Glazer noted that when poised with the idea, the Chiefs' head coach was not totally against it.
Glazer said that Reid acknowledged he was getting older and noted that he still has a young quarterback, 27-year-old Patrick Mahomes, to coach. This was when the coach said he would have an announcement after his team's match, as per CBS Sports.
If the Chiefs win against their opponent, the Philadelphia Eagles, a team that Reid previously coached, he would reach several milestones. One would be that he would become the 14th head coach to win several Super Bowl titles and the fourth to have at least 200 season wins and multiple Super Bowl titles.
The 2022 NFL season was Reid's 24th campaign as the head coach and is already his 10th with his current team. He has already achieved a 247-138-1 record in the regular seasons. This gives Reid the fifth spot in the most regular-season coaching wins in the history of the NFL.
Also, Reid's 21-16 playoff record makes him the head coach with the second-most postseason wins in history, lagging behind only New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick who was a 31-13 total.
If Reid does push forward with the idea of retiring as head coach, only a few others could be considered worthy of taking up the mantle. One person, in particular, is seen as a potential heir to Reid's position, and that is Eric Bieniemy.

Potential Head Coach Replacement
Bieniemy is the fifth-year coordinator who has run Kansas City's offense since Mahomes became a starter in 2018. Since then, he has had five trips to the AFC championship and three attempts at the Super Bowl, according to Yahoo Sports.
He has been one of the few considered to be a head-coaching candidate for several offseasons but has yet to be successful. Now, a potential opportunity to replace Reid would make his efforts worthwhile. However, there would undoubtedly be other candidates looking to take the spot, and he would certainly not be the sole candidate that the Chiefs would look at.
Glazer also noted that Reid was planning to enjoy the Super Bowl this year, which he said he had not been able to do in previous years. The Chiefs' head coach that before was doing his job for business and was not looking at ways to enjoy the matches and the Super Bowl alongside his player said the New York Post.
