Eviction Notice Prompts Minnesota Man To Kill Wife

Based on the criminal complaint on April 25, 2010, at 6:31 am, Heidi Firkus contacted 911, saying a home invasion was progressing in Minnehaha Avenue West. Before the call stopped, the woman got cut off, reported True Crime Daily.

Followed by a call by her husband at 6:33 am to call 911 using Heidi's phone. He was allegedly emotional during the call, saying someone had entered the house , noted Local Today.

He told the dispatchers that the intruder shot both of them while running to the garage. When the police arrived there, a smell of gunpowder was present. They saw Heidi Firkus dead on the kitchen floor, with blood on her hair and face, citing The Paradise.

Nicolas got shot in his leg based on the complaint and told the cops that one or two burglars attempted to enter the house. They took away his shotgun while he was escaping to the garage with his wife, and they shot Heidi.

Nicholas was asked whether the intruder was black or white, as mentioned in the complaint, and he said he did not know because the suspect wore a hood. He was sent to the hospital to treat minor injuries and alleged to be hysterical during the exam while hollering loud.

In another interview done by the police about the fatal home invasion, he added a few more details to the initial reports. He disclosed to the police his unpaid bills, the foreclosure of their house, and that they would be evicted the next day. But the eviction was not revealed, and the couple never told their family and friends, also getting kicked out for not paying.

Information from the complaint claims that the couple bought in 2007 for $200,000 but were unable to sustain payments. The housing foreclosure was scheduled to be served on June 4, 2009. The property had been sold via a sheriff's auction after getting foreclosed, and they were ordered to vacate the house on April 26, 2010.

Ramsey County Attorney's Office stated on May 20, 2021, that Nicholas Firkus was announced as accused of intentional second-degree homicide for his wife's death.

The detectives noted that Heidi had no idea about the unpaid mortgage and the foreclosed property they owned. Include that a home invasion is a misdirection, remarked the Attorney's Office. Officials noted that other DNA on the weapon or front door was not found.

Later, in September 2021, the suspect was found guilty of first-degree murder and second-degree murder. On February 10, a few months later, the Attorney's office said that Firkus had killed Heidi, as stated by Ramsey County.

Minnesota man Nicholas Firkus was proven by evidence that he killed his wife after getting an eviction notice and tried to blame fictional burglars as Heidi's killers.
