No. 8 Kansas dropped to 19-6 after losing two of their last five games. The Jayhawks bounced back from an 85-82 loss to Kansas State on Feb. 10 with a 95-65 rout of TCU on Saturday.
While freshman standout Andrew Wiggins often garners the headlines for Kansas, sophomore forward Perry Ellis has quietly become the team's second-leading scorer (14.0 ppg) and second-leading rebounder (6.9 rpg).
Ellis played a big part in Kansas' win on Saturday, when he scored a career-high 32 points while grabbing eight rebounds and dishing five assists.
"He was great," Kansas coach Bill Self said of Ellis, via ESPN. "He made shots, stretched it, then made mid-range shots, took the ball strong to the hole. I think one of his two misses he got back. He was without question our best player today. Other guys played well offensively, but certainly nobody played like Perry."
Wiggins, who scored 17 on Saturday, also praised his teammate.
"He takes good shots in rhythm, and he always looks for his teammates," said Wiggins. "He was aggressive all game, attacking the hoop, making 3s. He did everything."
Texas Tech (13-12), meanwhile, had their three-game winning streak snapped on Saturday in a 70-64 loss to No. 17 Iowa State. While the Red Raiders were unable to complete their comeback on Saturday, coach Tubby Smith sees his team improving down the stretch of the regular season.
"We've got some veteran players. We knew that coming in. We just needed to challenge them to be tougher, both mentally and physically," Smith said. "We're gaining. We're getting better in those areas."
