An off-duty police officer quickly apprehended the gunman, who authorities say killed one person and injured three others at a mall in El Paso, Texas on Wednesday.

El Paso Police Department Chief Peter Pacillas said during a news conference on Wednesday evening that an off-duty officer was already at the Cielo Vista Mall when the El Paso Mall Shooting began, according to Fox News.

According to Pacillas, at 5:05 p.m., police got reports of a suspect firing several shots, injuring at least four persons, and by 5:08 p.m., an officer had taken a suspect into custody in the El Paso Mall Shooting.

Police Chief Pacillas said the police officer subdued the criminal without firing a single shot.

Later in the news conference, Pacillas indicated that detectives had only started processing the crime scene in the latest Texas shooting. It was still unclear whether or not the suspect had shot at the off-duty officer.

FBI Lauds El Paso Police

It has been reported earlier that two suspects in the El Paso Mall Shooting have been taken into custody by the authorities, per BBC.

FBI Special Agent Jeff Downing made a short statement on the El Paso Mall Shooting to the media.

He praised the police for their quick action and urged anybody with information to contact authorities via an anonymous internet tip line.

In August 2019, a racist shooting took place at a Walmart near the mall, where 23 individuals lost their lives, according to ABC News.

Last week, the shooter in that incident, Patrick Crusius, pled guilty to 90 federal charges, including hate crimes and weapons offenses in the Texas shooting.

On Monday, a shooter opened fire inside Michigan State University (MSU), killing three students and injuring five more.
