With the release of 'Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania,' Phase 5 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe is officially started.

The film, directed by Peyton Reed and starring Paul Rudd and Evangeline Lilly as Scott Lang/Ant-Man and Hope Van Dyne/The Wasp, debuted in cinemas on February 17.

Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania Release

According to the film's official description, Scott (Rudd) and Hope (Lilly) return as Ant-Man and The Wasp to resume their adventures. Along with Hope's parents, Janet (Pfeiffer) and Hank (Douglas), and Scott's daughter Cassie (Newton), the family explores the Quantum Realm, connecting with weird new animals and going on a journey that will test them beyond their perceived limitations.

Michelle Pfeiffer and Michael Douglas play Hope's parents, Janet Van Dyne and Hank Pym, while Kathryn Newton portrays Scott's daughter, Cassie.

As Kang, introduced in the first season of 'Loki' on Disney+, Jonathan Majors returns. Kang is intended to play a significant part in the MCU moving forward, and his name is used in the 2025 Phase 6 release title: 'Avengers: The Kang Dynasty.'

David Dastmalchian as Veb, Katy O'Brian as Jentorra, William Jackson Harper as Quaz, and Bill Murray as Lord Krylar are all confirmed cast members. As is customary for MCU films, there will likely be a few unexpected cameos.

Despite its focus on such little characters, Quantumania has ambitious goals. The picture lays the stage for the following few years of Marvel storytelling, particularly in terms of its antagonist, as per Yahoo.

Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania Post-Credit Scene

Jonathan Majors makes his debut as Kang the Conqueror, a time-traveling, universe-hopping antagonist intent on wreaking havoc. Ant-Man and company finally beat Kang in Quantumania, but the film's two post-credits scenes indicate that his rule is far from finished.

The film concludes with the frightening message, "Kang will return." The first scene, which occurs around halfway through the end credits, suggests that we have not seen the last of Kang. Or, to be more exact, Kangs.

The scenario introduces a squadron of Kang varieties from around the multiverse, all of which Majors portrays. Several appear to be taken directly from the comics, such as the intimidating commander Immortus, the ancient pharaoh Rama-Tut, and what looks to be a variant of the Scarlet Centurion.

As it turns out, they are the ones who banished Kang to the Quantum Realm, and they are afraid that heroes such as Ant-Man are capable of defeating him. In retaliation, they resolve to amass all Kang variants in preparation for a multiverse-spanning conflict.

The picture concludes with thousands of Kangs assembling in a big amphitheater, eager to unleash some interdimensional disruption. This is another image lifted from the pages of Marvel comics, and it's a reference to the so-called Council of Kangs, which was established in a 1986 Avengers issue.

Kang may not appear in every new Marvel production, but his numerous varieties will continue to cause havoc. All this will culminate in the 2025 release of Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, the fittingly titled next Avengers feature.

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, the first Hollywood studio event picture of 2023, kicked off its American box office run with $17.5 million in Thursday previews, surpassing the previous films by a significant margin. Performing began at 3 p.m.

The Marvel Studios sequel is projected to earn a franchise-best $110 million during the four-day Presidents Day weekend (Friday-Monday) to rank among the greatest holiday performances.

Per Hollywood Reporter, Black Panther still holds the title with $242,2 million, followed by Deadpool with $152,2 million and Fifty Shades of Grey ($93 million), not accounting for inflation.
