Lamar Odom is making his basketball comeback. The 34-year-old has just signed a two-month deal with Spanish team Laboral Kutxa for the rest of the 2013-2014 season with the option to play one more year. Odom was released by the Los Angeles Clippers seven months ago, E! News reports.
"We're very happy to have signed a very important player who has had a long and fruitful career in the NBA," Josean Querejeta, president of Laboral Kutxa, said in a statement. "We've worked very hard over the last couple of days to make this happen. We felt we needed a boost and had to break the collective cloud that has been hanging over us the last while so we could get back to winning."
Laboral Kutxa is ninth in the Spanish league and last in the Euroleage group. Odom could be back on the court as early as this Saturday when the team plays Valladolid. According to ESPN, usually these types of contracts come with clauses that would allow a seasoned athlete like Odom the opportunity to return to the NBA if something opens up.
However, Odom has no plans right now to play basketball in the U.S. A source told the site that the New York native wants to finish out the season in Spain and then decide if he wants to attempt a comeback with the NBA.
Odom was close to signing a deal with the Clippers when coach Doc Rivers invited him to attend a team practice so he could see how the athlete's game and health was. Odom had an extremely rough summer that constantly landed him in the tabloids and ultimately ended his four-year marriage to reality TV star Khloe Kardashian.
In the end, the Clippers decided to sign three other guys instead of Odom.
