After the pro-wrestling company announced its possible sale, World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE), already a leader in social media, will try to grow its online presence this year.
The WWE is the first sports league to acquire 20 million followers on its primary TikTok account. According to a Washington Post report, it is expanding its presence on the platform by opening three other foreign TikTok accounts after its Spanish-language account garnered over 2 million followers in its initial year.
Despite reports of WWE sales, there appears to be no slowdown in WWE's expanding online presence. Paul Levesque, WWE chief content officer, and director, who wrestled as Triple H, said the wrestling promotion's YouTube channel reached 92 million followers in the fourth quarter, making it one of just ten channels on the site to do so.
In comparison, the number of subscribers to the NBA is 19.8 million, the NFL has 10.6 million, and the MLB has 4.05 million, as per a Fox local station WFXR TV article. Moreover, WWE has started to team up with artists with a sizable online fanbase, most notably YouTuber Logan Paul.
