VIDEOS: Severe Storm, Tornadoes Lash US; Northeast Warned Against Dangerous Road Conditions

This week, a new coast-to-coast winter storm is expected to pummel California, the Midwest, and the northeastern United States.

The National Weather Service (NWS) predicted that up to 8in (20cm) of snow might fall in parts of the northeast, with New York City receiving 2-6in. On the opposite side of the nation, mountainous regions in California are predicted to get further significant snowfall.

US Winter Storm Weather Update

In Oklahoma, 12 individuals have been hurt by tornadoes. There are winter storm warnings across Connecticut and Rhode Island. New York City and Boston have winter weather advisories in effect.

On Monday, Oklahoma, Kansas, Missouri, and Texas residents were advised to take shelter due to the arrival of tornadoes and strong winds. Sunday evening, seven tornadoes were reported to have struck Oklahoma. Due to the severe winds, images of overturned vehicles and residences with fallen roofs have emerged.

In northern Texas, near the Oklahoma border, a wind speed of 114mph (183km/h) was measured, the equivalent of a Category 3 hurricane. According to the NSW and meteorological experts, the current weather pattern likely qualifies as a "derecho," a rare weather phenomenon characterized by extreme straight-line winds.

A winter storm that left more than 152,000 Michigan residents without power last week is set to strike the state again. As per BBC, a winter storm has already caused widespread power outages, floods, and the shutdown of both highways and beaches in California.

After days of strong winds, more than 120,000 people, most of whom were in the Los Angeles region, were left without power. As of Monday evening, around 52,500 California residents were without electricity.

Due to harsh winter weather, Yosemite National Park will be closed until Wednesday. Citizens of the state capital of Sacramento have been cautioned not to travel until Wednesday due to the return of rain and snow.

Several houses, businesses, and schools were harmed, and locals were warned to avoid downed power wires. Monday saw at least three tornadoes touch down in northern Illinois. According to the Chicago NWS, two made landfall in western Joliet and far north Naperville.

On Monday morning, a third tornado was recorded near Champaign, central Illinois. This week, snow, rain, severe winds, and potential tornadoes are expected in other areas of the country.

Throughout portions of the Ohio Valley, the storm prediction center of the meteorological service has issued a minor risk warning for severe thunderstorms. Snow is forecast for portions of Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Rhode Island through Tuesday, with the "steadiest and heaviest precipitation" falling Monday night, according to the National Weather Service in Boston.

Throughout Connecticut and the Berkshires in Massachusetts, the heaviest accumulations of snow are anticipated, NBC News reported. On Monday night, New York City will be under a winter weather advisory and is expected to receive 3 to 5 inches of snow with wind gusts of up to 35 miles per hour.

After last week's storm, hundreds of Michigan citizens have been without power for days. According to PowerOutage.us, about 200,000 utility customers were still without power as of Monday evening.

DTE Energy and Consumers Energy, the two largest utilities in the state, have stated that they are trying to restore power to homes throughout the state. In a statement released Monday, Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel urged DTE Energy and Consumers Electric to "proactively offer credits for residents affected by recent weather occurrences.

Videos Captured Tornadoes' Damages

Videos of the aftermath of an Oklahoma tornado have begun to circulate on social media. Moreover, Ada, Holdenville, and Atoka have issued severe thunderstorm warnings.

A Sunday video captured in Norman, Oklahoma, depicted the partial destruction of homes. The video showed uprooted trees and scattered debris in a residential neighborhood in Norman, Oklahoma. In addition to destroyed fences, the roofs of some residences are partially damaged.

There are also emergency service trucks in the neighborhood. In a second video, purportedly shot near Lake Thunderbird in Norman, Oklahoma, animals are being rescued after the storm. Per Newsweek, several goats can be seen in the movie being rescued after becoming entombed beneath debris. It does not appear that any of the goats in the film are significantly hurt.

A second video, provided on Twitter by meteorologist Tyler Pardun, promises to show the tornado moving behind several residences as thunder and lightning is occurring.

After a lightning strike, the film briefly glimpses the tornado fast-moving through the neighborhood. According to the Cedar Country Fire Department, the storm also damaged electrical wires.

Reportedly, the storm also created problems at the Hitachi facility in Norman. Monday morning's National Weather Service report indicated that the threat of a tornado and severe thunderstorms has gone.
