Mount Vernon School District authorities verified the death STEAM Academy ninth grader. The horrific incident occurred at approximately 10:30 a.m. Thursday over at the Levister Towers residential complex on South 9th Avenue.
According to the police, they were summoned to the courtyard area, where they discovered the wounded teenage boy and started giving him first aid right away, News 12 reported.
The young boy was transported to Montefiore Mount Vernon emergency department, where he was confirmed dead immediately after arrival. His name has not yet been disclosed.
Another teenager with a non-fatal gunshot wound was discovered shortly after that, according to sources. Save Mount Vernon founder Jesse Van Lew was alarmed by the latest Mount Vernon school shooting. He commented that parents should take responsibility. "Why isn't the child in school?" the community advocate asked.

Crisis Team Deployed
The school system sent the District Crisis Team to all nearby schools and high schools, including school counselors, psychologists, social workers, and other employees. They will be available throughout the rest of the week, per ABC 7.
As of this writing, no one has been detained regarding the Mount Vernon school shooting. Police union president Lt. Nicholas Mastrogiorgio announced the youngster's death on social media.
"My heart goes out (to) the family of this young child whose life was cut short at the hands of senseless gun violence," Mastrogiorgio posted. He described the death of the 14-year-old boy as "heartbreaking," according to Lohud.
Eight schools in the city were locked down "out of an abundance of caution" following the school shooting incident, according to Mount Vernon acting superintendent Dr. K. Veronica Smith.
