Despite the Oscars 2023 being a star-studded event, some of the brightest Hollywood stars did not attend the awards ceremony, including Tom Cruise, whose film "Top Gun: Maverick" was nominated for six awards.

A representative for the actor subsequently informed that Tom Cruise Oscars 2023 absence was because he was shooting "Mission: Impossible 8" in another country, according to NDTV.

Despite Top Gun: Maverick's six nominations, including Best Picture, the 60-year-old actor is missing Sunday's awards event at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood.

Top Gun: Maverick was nominated for several Academy Awards including Best Picture, Best Sound, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Film Editing, and Best Original Song for "Hold My Hand," per People.

Despite Tom Cruise's absence, The film won Best Sound and Lady Gaga performed "Hold My Hand" on stage.

Top Gun: Maverick 'Saved Hollywood'

It was surprising that Tom Cruise Oscars 2023 absence happened given he was seen at the Oscars 2023 nominations luncheon at the Beverly Hilton in Los Angeles only a month ago.

Top Gun: Maverick was the highest-grossing film in the United States in 2022, and at the time. Moreover, a video surfaced online showing Steven Spielberg telling Tom Cruise that the latest installment of Top Gun "saved Hollywood's ass," per Movieweb.

Top Gun: Maverick follows Pete "Maverick" Mitchell (Tom Cruise), a Navy pilot for almost 30 years. Maverick has successfully avoided the promotion in rank that would have stifled his desire to probe the limits of human possibility in the role of a fearless test pilot. Maverick meets Lt. Bradley Bradshaw (Miles Teller), call sign "Rooster," the son of his late comrade and Radar Intercept Officer Lt. Nick Bradshaw, alias "Goose," while preparing a squadron of Top Gun grads for a mission no pilot has encountered before.
