Pakistan advised that it will allow Ukraine to get old T-80UD tanks if there is payment. One condition for the export of these tanks via assistance from western countries, said Ukrainian sources.
Pakistan Sells Its Old T-80UD Tanks
Kyiv and Islamabad have worked together to produce military hardware and have been sending humanitarian aid and military supplies to Kyiv. But the Pakistanis have not admitted to supplying any military help to Kyiv, reported Bulgarian Military.
Though categorically denied by Islamabad, it helped Kyiv though some claims surfaced, according to reports. Sources say that arms like artillery shells, projectile charges, pods, and detonators were sent to Kyiv. It was sent to a third party which is supposed to be Poland but no proof of it.
Pakistani leaders allegedly intend to make money from the T-08 UD exported to Kyiv, get away with it, and avoid any adverse reaction if the Kremlin is displeased, per Military Today.
An observation stems from the start of the war, where a double standard exists in how military hardware is provided and, for example, compared to the nations providing military hardware originating from Russia that needs no permission. But compared to western countries that make and supply arms are less inclined to be less liberal. Due to strict controls limiting the arrival of modern that is less than prevalent, the use of old Soviet Legacy equipment that more obsolete.
Ukrainians initially built the tanks in the Pakistani army's possession, which will be part of the financial compensation to acquire them, developed from the T-80 first in service in 1987. The UD means Ukrainian Diesel based on the designation.
Capabilities of Tanks for Ukraine
Arming it as the primary offensive weapon is a 125 mm smoothbore gun that can use several ammo types, states Hindustan Times. A provision for several kinds of shells is provided to attack different targets. Shells are armor-piercing projectiles equipped with stabilized rejection fins, high-explosive anti-tank projectiles, and high-explosive fragmentation rounds as several types fired from its main gun.
Protecting the Type 80 is armor made of a combo of steel and ceramic material that is the standard defense against weapons designed to breach tank armor, a system like anti-tank missiles, and armor-piercing warheads to destroy main battle tanks on the battlefield.
Powering the chassis is a 6-cylinder Ukrainian diesel to propel it forward with 1,000 horsepower. It has a range of 560 kilometers on a full tank and can speed up to 60 km/h on most roads.
The history of the Ukrainian-origin T-80s was first exported to Islamabad in the later 1990s. Pakistan has 320 T-80s in its current stockpile of military hardware. Classified as a third-generation tank, it is the most common type in the world's land forces. Sources say that all these main battle tanks are operational and used by Pakistan's army.
Ukraine has lost too many main battle tanks that require modern types from western nations, but it's only Pakistan willing to part with Old T-80UD Tanks at a price.
