Cruise Ship Employee, Ketut Pujayasa, Rapes And Attacks Passenger Before Trying To Throw Her Overboard

A Holland America cruise ship employee allegedly raped and attacked a female passenger before trying to throw her overboard this weekend, the New York Daily News reported.

Ketut Pujayasa, 28, admitted to the frightening incident to investigators once the MS Nieuw Amsterdam returned to Fort Lauderdale on Sunday.

According to Pujayasa, he got upset after knocking several times on the door of a 31-year-old American woman's room to deliver breakfast, to which she responded "Wait a minute, you son of a b*****!"

"Pujayasa stated that the passenger's comment of 'son of a bitch' was offensive to himself and his parents. He was angry and upset the rest of the day," FBI Special Agent David Nunez wrote in his report.

He then planned on getting revenge by punching the woman in the face, but his actions escalated quickly. While off-duty, he obtained the key to the woman's room and hid on her balcony. Once he woke up, he began attacking her with a laptop and curling iron, beating and choking her.

The terrified passenger tried to fight back and "continued to fight for her life by all means available including striking Pujayasa's exposed genitals as well as utilizing a corkscrew in an attempt to stab him," Pujayasa said to the FBI.

Pujayasa told authorities he planned on dumping her into the ocean as the cruise ship sailed through Honduras but escaped from her room after a second passenger heard the woman's screams, who eventually found the victim covered in blood.

"The passenger also noted that (the victim) had a curling iron wrapped and tangled around her neck and/or hair. He also described (her) as having black eyes and visible bruising around her neck and shoulders. (The woman), fearing death was imminent, asked the passenger to relay to her family how much she loved them," agents wrote in their report.

The victim was flown to a South Florida hospital for treatment and Pujayasa, who was immediately fired, is being held in jail without bond.

Following the incident, Holland America released a statement on Tuesday.

"He had no performance issues and came with good references," the statement read, citing Puyajasa's clean record.

"We continue to work closely with authorities to understand how this incident occurred and what additional actions we can take to help ensure that nothing like this ever happens again."
