Around 400,000 Americans remained without electricity on Wednesday after severe winter storms slammed both coasts.
Over 196,000 individuals on the East Coast were without power, as reported by PowerOutage.us, while approximately 188,000 customers in California were without electricity, according to a Gizmodo report. The East Coast was hit with record snowfall, while the West Coast was flooded by record rainfall.
On Tuesday, rivers flooded, and mudslides occurred in California. A state of emergency has been declared in almost 40% of the 58 counties. New York, New Hampshire, and Massachusetts have received snowfall totals of up to three feet.
Early Wednesday morning, storms on both US coastlines began to subside, but the devastation is still evident.

California Suffers Heavy Damage From Severe Weather
The northeastern United States was hit by a violent storm that dumped several feet of snow, knocked down power lines and trees, and produced wind gusts of more than 40 miles per hour (64 kilometers per hour). BBC reported a widespread shutdown of hundreds of area schools and businesses.
Recent storm damage and the collapse of the levee along the Pajaro River prompted California Governor Gavin Newsom to visit Monterey County.
A mudslide in Placer County destroyed at least one property and caused evacuations. Evacuation advisories have ceased, per KCRA. In Amador County on Tuesday, authorities urged residents of Jackson, Sutter Creek, Ione, and certain areas along Highway 88 to leave their homes immediately.
The Riverdale district of Modesto and the adjacent rural regions of Patterson and Grayson in Stanislaus County have previously been the subject of evacuation advisories. The California Office of Emergency Services has created several shelters for displaced people in response to recent winter storms.
