Arsenal, which sits No. 2 in the Premier League standings, has the undesirable luck of meeting the reigning Champions League winner Bayern Munich in the first leg of the round of 16. Bayern Munich hasn't lost since Dec. 7 and has since won nine straight matches in all competition, something which makes it imperative for Arsenal to come out swinging.
"It is important [to make a fast start] because every minute counts in a game of this stature and we are conscious of that and we'll try to start very strongly," Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger said, via IB Times. "We have big home strengths recently because we don't give goals away and that will certainly be vitally important in this tie.
"We know we face the competition favourites, but what we have is the belief because we've had big games in the Champions League and in the FA Cup. We played against Tottenham and against Liverpool, so since the start of the season we know that in every single game we have to be 100 percent."
Bayern Munich, meanwhile, may be the best club in the world. They sit atop the Bundesliga standings with a more-than-comfortable 16-point lead over No. 2 Bayer, and a win on Wednesday would be Bayern's tenth straight.
