- Ivanka Trump breaks silence on her father's, Donald Trump's, indictment
- She said that she was "pained" by the Manhattan grand jury's decision
- Trump faces potential charges of falsifying business records
Ivanka Trump has broken her silence about her father's, former United States President Donald Trump, indictment, saying that she is "pained" by the Manhattan grand jury's decision.
The statement, released on Friday, was posted on social media, adding that she appreciated the voices across the political spectrum that were made in support of the Republican businessman. A law enforcement source said that following the indictment from the Manhattan grand jury, Trump is expected to be arraigned in court on Tuesday.
Ivanka Trump Speaks About Father's Indictment
Judge Juan Merchan was responsible for presiding over the case that Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg brought. An alleged hush payment worth $130,000 was supposedly given to adult film star Stormy Daniels in 2016 amid Trump's campaign for president.
On top of confirmation given by Trump's attorney Joe Tacopina, another source said that the former president has made arrangements with the district attorney's legal team to surrender without handcuffs. The DA's office will then deploy detectives who will handle the arrest of the Republican businessman, as per Fox News.
Ivanka moved to Miami along with her husband, Jared Kushner, after the two spent four years in Washington, D.C., in the political forefront serving under the Trump administration. She is not expected to play a significant role in her father's 2024 presidential run.
She served as a senior adviser to Trump during the latter's four years in the White House despite saying she did not plan to be involved in politics. Ivanka's statement read, "I love my father, and I love my country. Today, I am pained for both."
The Manhattan grand jury's indictment remains under seal for now. According to The Hill, it is under fire by Trump's colleagues and supporters who argue that it is politically motivated and is only intended to hurt the former president's attempt for a 2024 re-election.
Donald Trump Faces Criminal Charges
Ivanka's post comes as Trump has become the first former president of the United States to face criminal charges. The Republican businessman released a statement minutes after the official announcement of the indictment, decrying the Manhattan grand jury's decision.
He considered the decision "political persecution" and "election interference at the highest level." Trump also criticized Bragg as someone who was "hand-picked and funded by George Soros," referring to a well-known antisemitic dog whistle.
Trump said that Democrats have lied, cheated, and stolen in their obsession of trying to "Get Trump." He argued that they have now done the unimaginable: to indict a completely innocent person, referring to himself, in the act of election interference.
While the payment to Daniels alone would not be considered a crime, the possibility that Trump fraudulently documented the expense, which he claimed was payment covered under Michael Cohen's "monthly retainer" fee, could constitute a crime of falsifying business records, said BuzzFeedNews.
