A former Alabama police officer is accused of slaying his girlfriend in 2022.
He started a long-distance relationship with her after he met the woman on a dating app.
Pieces of evidence have led to the police officer getting charged with three counts of murder.
A former Alabama police officer was charged with the murder of his long-distance girlfriend in 2022.
The couple is believed to have met via the Tinder dating app, which began a long-distance relationship.
Ex-Alabama Police Officer Charged with Capital Murder
David McCoy, 29, got three counts of capital murder for the killing of Courtney Spraggins, 26, as mentioned by WHNT.
The accused, an ex-Huntsville Police officer, has been named as the chief suspect and is charged with three counts of capital murder.
Of these counts, one is for the murder of Spraggins while she was in her car last January 7, 2022. Another is for the slaying of the mother and her unborn child, and the third is for the murder of a child under 14, like an unborn baby. The victim was seven months along the way, stated her family, WNGO reported.
The victim's mother, Kimberley Walter, said the couple had a fractured, long-distance relationship between Spraggins and McCoy. One lived in Alabama, working for the Huntsville Police Department, and the other lived in North Carolina. Spraggins visited McCoy after seeing her kids in Georgia, per Law and Crime.
McCoy Shots Long-Distance Girlfriend
Walter said that her daughter would go to see McCoy in a short time on her way back to North Carolina after visiting her kids. Spraggins suffered a miscarriage after an initial pregnancy.
Walter added, "He never spent a lot of time with her."
At one time, Walter claimed that McCoy was unhappy about the pregnancy and did something surprising. He brought Spraggins to a cornfield, where he threatened to commit suicide. It scared Spraggins enough to live in Maryland with her parents, but later McCoy made her return, but Walter convinced her not to, realizing it was all a red flag.
The Huntsville police mentioned Spraggins stayed with McCoy last December 17, 2021, when she quit her job to be with him, but he said he wanted more time to decide.
McCoy was allegedly engaged to another woman before hooking up with the victim. He asked her to come back so he could take care of her. On the day she arrived, he shot her in the head.
While in interrogation, the former cop was too shifty in his claims. He said he did not know the victim but admitted later after trying to hide his crime. Authorities discovered ultrasound pictures in the patrol car of McCoy, as mentioned by WAAYTV.
Huntsville Police Chief Mark McMurray stated in 2022 that they are saddened by the death of Ms. Courtney Spraggins in the community. He expressed condolences on the deceased's loved ones, saying that McCoy is not representative of officers in the force with a promise to serve justice, according to a post on the City of Huntsville's official website.
The accused, an ex-police officer, is now fired after he shot dead his pregnant girlfriend, whom he met on a dating app. The deceased's mother said the long-distance relationship between the couple was heading for trouble, leading to the murder.
