A huge saltwater crocodile assaulted a 65-year-old man sleeping on an Australian beach, waking him in shock.
The camper got bitten on the foot while resting in a sleeping bag on the beach. The crocodile attack victim was rushed to Mossman Hospital for overnight treatment. He was eventually released, according to The Mirror.
According to a representative for Cairns and Hinterland Hospital and Health Service, the event happened near Newell Beach in Far North Queensland.
According to a spokesman for the Department of Environment and Science (DES), the latest Australian crocodile attack will be looked into.
The spokesperson stressed the need to promptly report any crocodile sightings and warned the public to take precautions.
Giant Australian Crocodile Found In The Beach Area
Peter Capp, proprietor of Newell Beach Takeaway and Café, told the media outlet that he had seen a massive crocodile in the area where the Australian crocodile attack victim was bitten.
The huge crocodile dwells there and moves "up and down the area," he stated, as per Daily Mail.
The Department of Environment and Science (DES) has acknowledged the occurrence and confirmed that it is cooperating with the ongoing investigation by the Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service (QWPS).
QPWS wildlife officials are looking for crocodiles on the beach and surrounding area.
In 2021, a 4.5-meter crocodile was caught near Newell Beach, proving that large crocodiles frequent the region.
Wildlife authorities at the time believed that the animal's violent behavior was probably caused by people feeding the crocodile.
It is the most recent of numerous recent Australian crocodile attacks in the Far North, some of which targeted pets.
In the south of Cooktown, an Australian crocodile attack on a man and his dog occurred in February while they were both getting into the water. DES cops killed a 4.2-meter crocodile after the man's dog was eaten, according to ABC.
Another family pet was killed by a crocodile in a Cairns neighborhood in December.
